↑ Well, no actually. I specifically stated that I was comparing two different years. In fact I made it quite explicit in both the data and my final paragraph. I'm not comparing two different years for devilment – try as I might, I cannot find any hard information about the number of murders in Jamaica in 2011.

I have found some information that suggests that 1125 people were murdered in Jamaica in 2011 but it's on someone’s blog without reference so I didn't want to include it in my above post. However, assuming it's correct that gives 0.042% which is still higher than the official 2011 figures for South Africa.
Anotheoldgit was saying South Africa had more murders in total than Jamaica so that meant they were worse than Jamaica.
i feel desperately sorry for the family of the women killed, not exactly sure why at this stage one has sympathy for the Pistorius family, Oscar may not have intended to kill his girlfriend, that is up to their justice system to decide, but she is dead at his hands.
Birdie -- that's precisely the point I was making, i.e. that Jamaica's rate was higher than South Africa's (at least comparing two different years) but that South Africa's count was higher. AOG was arguing that the data had to be wrong because the rate in Jamaica was apparently the highest that year, but how could this be at 1,674 is less than 18,000?

So your post is in agreement with mine and in contradiction to AOG's point.
There are various sites reporting 1124 murders in Jamaica in 2011, one site says "nearly 1124" but I've no idea what that means.
AOG was doubting the 18,000 murders in South Africa which I mentioned because he believed Jamaica With 1,674 had the most murders.

As explained earlier, the murder rate and murder count are entirely different. My compatison between the UK and South Africa stands as they have similar populations but vastly different murder counts.
Sorry, not following what murder rates in Jamaica and South Africa have to do with the question " Can it get any worse for the Pistorius family?" What is the relevance?

By the way, aog, nearly all the Jamaican murderers were black, for certain; possibly they all were. (Just thought I'd help you along as you like to bring race into subjects, however wrong the analysis).
I know that anotheoldgit keeps harking on about what like things were in the past, maybe they didn't have stats in the good old days so he's not sure how to use them...
Jim360 - “... Birdie -- that's precisely the point I was making...”

Sorry about that – I misread it. My mistake. D'oh!
///And mostly committed by blacks against whites it would seem. ///

Whereas when the whites ran the country, all the blacks were of course perfectly safe - NOT. Millions were "murdered" directly or indirectly by the white regime.

Not everybody has Mandela's passion for forgiveness, many are driven by racial bigotry as bad as that exhibited on this site by none other than .........................[censored]
