Yes......difficult times for the family.......the parents have my sympathy.
For those who are constantly posting about murder and crime in this country, and how so much worse than ever it is, they should look at South Africa.

They have 50 murders a day. 18,000 anually. The UK has 600 annually.
What about the families of the two women these men have allegedly killed.

At least the Pistoriuss family still have their men alive !!!

No such case for the women !
This OP asked about the Pistoriuss family............

Of course one feels for the family of the victims...........
Well it should get worse but I do have my doubts.

And mostly committed by blacks against whites it would seem.

But are you sure you have got your figures correct Gromit, because according to the following,

/// In 2005, Jamaica had 1,674 murders for a murder rate of 58 per 100,000 people. That year, Jamaica had the highest murder rate in the world. ///
Gromit never mentioned Jamaica , and I missing something?
Jamaica's population, by that figure you quoted, is about 2.9 million in 2005. South Africa's population was 51 million in 2011. Not comparing like with like here obviously, but at 50 people a day Gromit's figures translate to a murder rate of 35 per 100,000. Still horrific but less than Jamaica's by rate -- and more by number.

A murder rate above 0 is of course always very sad to see. I think it's clear that South Africa is a very violent and unstable place as now three people linked to this trial are implicated in murders, attempted murders, or at least some sort of violent crime. I wonder how many more such damning revelations will come out by the end of this trial. A desperately sad case for both the Pistorius family and yes, the families of the victims.

You certainly are, when referring to South Africa Gromit said "They have 50 murders a day. 18,000 annually".

I was merely pointing out that Jamaica is quoted has having the highest murder rate in the world with 1,674 murders, which is quite a few less than the 18,000 in South Africa, which therefore should give South Africa the title of highest murder rate in the world.

What has the murder rate in Jamaica got to do wi the SA murder rate?

I will try again

South Africa 18,000 murders annually.

Jamaica, "HIGHEST MURDER RATE IN THE WORLD", only 1,674 murders.

Either way there is some false information somewhere.

A murder rate is defined as murders per 100,000 people. As I pointed out already, South Africa's murder rate is less than Jamaica's. Even though more people are murders in SA, there are more people so the murder rate comes out to be less than in Jamaica. There is no false information, you're just confusing two types of statistical measure. Total murder numbers are always going to be higher on average in countries with more people.

Can you have another bash?
because I see no link between your last 3 posts and what Gromit said.
It'll be worse if they're convicted.

/// A murder rate is defined as murders per 100,000 people. ///

Not in this particular case, Gromit said "They have 50 murders a day. 18,000 anually" no mention of murders per 100,000 people you will notice.

In 2005, Jamaica had 1,674 murders for a murder rate of 58 per 100,000 people. That year, Jamaica had the highest murder rate in the world. ///

1,674 murders or to put it your way, only 58 per 100,000 for year 2005.
Oh dear, it could be a long day.

Do you really think a country with 1,674 murders annually makes them top of the murder league/

You are confusing the murder rate and the murder count. For your information, here is the table...

Brazil 40,974
India 40,752
South Africa 15,940
Jamaica 1,430*
United Kingdom 722*

* These figures are from 2011, hence the UK is now 650 murders total and Jamaica 1,674.
Anotheoldgit, as has been said before, there are lies, damned lies and statistics. You have confused the total number of murders and the murder rate. If country A has 1,000 murders and country B has 5,000 you are saying country B is worse than A. If however, A has a population of 1,000,000 and B's population is 20,000,000, A has a much higher rate per 100,000 population. If you don't look at the RATE, then the likes of India and its huge population is more likely to have a higher total than Iceland for example.
(18,000 people murdered in South Africa annually)
// And mostly committed by blacks against whites it would seem. //

Another bogus fact made up by AOG. Fortunately his own link helps disprove the statement.

It states that 68798 white people have been murdered since 1994 (19 years ago). My guess is most of them will have been murdered by other white people, but lets just assume every one was killed a black person.

19 years x 18,000 anual murders is 342,000 of which 68,798 were white.

I will leave uou to do the math, suffice to say the majority of murders in South Africa are not of white people by black people.
Jim360 - “... A murder rate is defined as murders per 100,000 people. As I pointed out already, South Africa's murder rate is less than Jamaica's...”

I'm not being facetious but I think you may be wrong here.
I didn't have a clue about the population nor the murder rates in either South Africa or Jamaica so I looked them up. This is what I found:

South Africa in 2011 -
Population: 50,586,800
Number of people murdered: 18,250
Percentage of population murdered: 0.036%

Jamaica in 2005 -
Population: 2,650,400
Number of murders: 1,674
Percentage of population murdered: 0.063%

If the above figures are correct, doesn't this mean that in 2005 Jamaica had a higher murder rate than South Africa in 2011? And if so, doesn't this bear out what AOG initially claimed (notwithstanding the racial element)?
Well no, because you are comparing different years...
