/// His mother claimed she went to see the head teacher of the school several times only to be told: ‘You didn’t have to come to this school, you chose to come here.’ ///
If this is true it would appear that some staff at this school need sacking.

There was a big school assembly the week before in which they made it very clear that any kind of racist comments/behaviour wouldnt be tolerated.
I'm still in contact with the lad on FB. He's popular, intelligent, went on to study law and now has a successful career in politics. He had loads of mates at school and was accepted from the word go.

Why the Little England comment, what are you trying to prove?.
If you are not proud of your country then go somewhere else.
Bullying happens with children, they will find whatever child is different and pick on them. Laws don't matter to children and it does not matter what the parents do to bring them up pack mentality takes over.
So, it won't just be colour, it can be disability, the rich kid, the poor kid, the lisping kid. Schools have had to deal with this for many decades and will continue to do so, they are there to give th echild an education and part of that education is respect to fellow mankind.

The school website has some advice for the children.

I agree with this
I do not agree this means it has to be accepted and cannot change
You might remeber I posted about some results butting Britain in the top 10 internationally - I also pointed out in that thread that our schools have one of the worst bullying problems internationally.
If we say ' Oh well bullying has always happened and always will' it becomes a self fulfilling prophepsy.
Nobody would take that attitude about rape - let's not take it about bullying
The comments under the article are sensible. This is about bullying and the bullies will pick on anyone vulnerable and use whatever words or excuses they choose. This is not about racial hatred; were it so,25 per cent of the school would be in danger; but about choosing an excuse to bully, which in this case was , or included, a racial one.
"Having read the answers to this thread makes me wonder when does 'bullying' become 'racist, and at what age'"
Yes this is a sad story but to answer your question whatever age their parents/peers or media teach them it usually.
As em10 said kids are cruel and will use anything they can on other kids, fat, thin, spectacles or ginger hair etc.. As well as illness's and ripped clothes because their poor etc.
Kids use "differences" mainly and what could be more different than a kids colour, religion or language?

The entire piece is based on anecdotal "evidence" by the mother. The mother says she saw the head several times
The school has 25% white pupils, why was he picked on?
If I had to see the head of the school repeatedly, I would complain to the education authority and take my son out until there was a resoloution.
Why didn't she?
Theres more to this than meets the eye, but then sometimes the eye is all you need
