This was under discussion on LBC radio's phone in early this morning, and everyone who telephoned or text the radio station, said that they would if they could afford it.

If that is a fair section of the population, it is most frightening, and surprise, surprise most if not all blamed the immigration policies of the last Labour Government, and that the possibility of Labour getting into power at the next election is far too frightening to contemplate.

Definitely. I shall go abroad to avoid being surrounded by foreigners.
one less, room for twenty more.

That link is from 2008. He never f**ked off.

No the country has not gone to the dogs, it is still one of the best places to live. You may be forgiven for thinking it is if you read it being constantly sl*gged off in the Daily Mail and other grubby unpatriotic right wing tabloids. And LBC apparently.

Have you forgotten already the resounding success of the olympics.
>>>Have you forgotten already the resounding success of the olympics.

Nothing wrong with the country then, as we can run a good Olympics every 50 years or so.

i don't think it has gone to the dogs, but we are slipping into second rate very very fast...

Noticed the date ^^^^^^ on the link. must be a slow news day!

///the possibility of Labour getting into power at the next election is far too frightening to contemplate///

I do agree with that though

my link to different story is much more up to date, at least i think so......
EM - slipping into second rate

Hillarious!!

We haven't been first rate since the first world war

Do you seriously think we rank equal alongside say America in any way shape or form.

Yes we punch above our weight but that doesn't make the UK in the first rank of the most important countries in the world.

We tried action in Suez and had to stop when the Americans said NO - If we'd said NO to Iraq do you think George Bush would have changed a thing?

As part of the EU we are (or should be) a leading partner in the World's largest and most powerful economy.

That's the great tragedy of this - the UK and Germany have two highly industrialised econonomies with very similar political outlooks.

Together we could lead Europe but instead we're living in a fantasy land where we're still independantly important.

Yes I realise the date, but seeing that there was a hot radio debate on the subject, and with no up to date news reports on the subject, I had to present something that supported the debate.

Regardless of the date of the report though the thinking is still up to date, if not even more so.
Given he said all that in 2008 and he's still here, not very serious was he?
another indecisive luvvie by the look of it!

Sounds very much that you are sorry that Germany lost WW2, perhaps you now wish for a Fourth Reich?
Ray Winstone is a good actor but why should we take any notice of his political views? Any more than we should take any notice of Ben Elton or Eddie Izzard. Celebs are welcome to their opinion and fortunate in having an audience for their outpourings, but their opinions are no more valud than anyones here.
No I want to see the UK and Germany together running Europe

We have so much in common and together we would really lead.

You really should grow up and stop constantly harking back to something 70 years ago!

Move on for goodness sake!
//Ray Winstone's a good actor//

Really? is he even that? - has he ever acted anything other than an East End thug?

Ray Winstone as Lincoln - Nah don't see it
// Sounds very much that you are sorry that Germany lost WW2, perhaps you now wish for a Fourth Reich? //

Cheap AOG. Very cheap.

The tragedy is that through weak leadership, instead of leading in Europe as Germany does, we are sidelined, spectators, followers and powerless.

As are all those others who relayed their thought on the phone in early this morning.

There are very many who possess these thoughts but most of them are either too old, have family commitments or not wealthy enough to leave.

I was just using WW2 as an example, because even in the 30s there were unpatriotics (as they are today) who would have been only too ready to join Hitler in a German/English dominated Europe.

So it would seem by your remarks that some things don't change very much even with the passage of time.
