Mountain Climbing Against Advise

On the news again tonight, some people went up a mountain, against advise and after a warning of bad weather, result, the emergency services had to rescue them in dreadful conditions and putting their own lives at risk, whats wrong with these stupid people? and would they think twice if they had to pay to be saved? its not as if it were acidental that they were there, it was a deliberate act of stupidity, makes my blood boil.

Mine too cecil39 no consideration or thought for the people who have to come and rescue them at risk to themselves,all in the name of having outdoor fun and sport,They were discussing at one time about charges for rescue but I don't think anything became of it.I am sure if they did it would certainly make them think twice!!!

I will temper my reply as I'm typing it and not yelling at the TV screen.
They should pay to be be rescued. They are the biggest idiots around.
Surely those who go mountain climbing etc, know the risks and therefore know when to go out and when to stay home?

Oddly enough Mountain Rescue Teams don't make judgements after the event.
Just glad to save life is the only thing that matters as dragging a body in a bag is the worst downer I have ever known.

Alba, voluntary rescue teams value their independence. Quite a few people chip in a few quid in gratitude but its a very private matter. As to helicopters, they are so expensive that the true cost would be a blow to many casualties.

It's a pity a ban on going mountaineering, walking on hills, moors etc, when the weather is bad can't be enforced.

The Mountain Rescue in the Lakes are against charging people to be rescued.

Its very difficult...if you take a child with you (or a pet) who can't decide for themselves whether or not to go then I agree, it should be dealt with in law. We own ourselves though and are entitled to take risks. The volunteer rescue teams choose to do it and choose to take the risks themselves.

Maybe it ought to be made a public order or even criminal offence instead to go climbing against advice.

The other problem is that stupidity is, unfortunately, incurable.

No tenrec, wouldn't go that far, I know some people may have to take their car out in bad weather, foe whatever reason but to go mountain climbing etc in bad weather, which is not a necessity, is just plain stupid and should be banned IMO.

So glad you agree with me, its just an adventure to them with no thought for others, its a pity they don' have to sign a disclaimer to say they don't want to be rescued, i'm sure that would put some of them off.

I'm not saying a blanket ban on mountain climbing, what does annoy me is when the reporter says 'they were wearing trainers' etc.
If they wore the correct 'gear' then they should be allowed to go climbing.

As has been stated the rescue teams are volunteers and are pleased to do it for no recompense,but if they were not there at all that is the only thing which would be a deterrent.

Personally, I take my hat off to the emergency services, whether professional or volunteers.
They must see some sights and handle some nasty situations which are beyond my imagination.

I wholeheartedly second that alba and while we are on about things which make one's blood boil, the inane violence and violation towards them and vehicles while they are trying to do their jobs is abominable!!
