I think it is fantastic news and Im very excited but my question is, and this may be a little premature, what will happen to the stadium after the olympics? what will it be used for?

Makes me wonder why they didn't opt to use the New Wembley stadium instead, or was that too short-sighted of them?

Perhaps Chelsea FC could move in!

Perhaps they could keep the Millennium Dome in there?

It will be a major athletics venue for long after the games.
millenium dome is already proposed as one of the venues, as is wimbledon for the tennis and Wembley for the football tournament. I think what a lot of people forget is there is more than just track and field events where a brand new stadium is being built (80,000 seats) but other events as well that need venues. such as volyball tounament in kings guards and equestrian in regents park/hyde park possibly
West Ham FC have expressed an interest.
the problem with Wembley as I recall was that, after one of the many kerfuffles, it ended up without room for an athletics track, only football. A very fair question, though: I believe even the facilities in Sydney, a sports-mad city, don't get as much use as they should.
Lol, galltin  :o)

Is it built yet? Just don't rush things.

Hey Jackanory, haven't seen you around for a while. How's life treating you?

venues here
They will fill it up with custard and use it to drown hippopotamuses.

The fools. Don't they realise Hippos are good swimmers?

Oh Artful how kind of you to ask.  Life's been a bit up & down just lately but I'm fine thanks.

I looked at the front page of the paper this morning, showing the jubilations after the olympics announcement, & thought "Great!  Just the boost this country needs."  Tomorrow's headlines will be so different.  I do hope no ABers were involved.

What will happen to the stadium after the olympics?

they'll be close to finishing building it ....

It'll be reduced to 25,000 seats and will be used for the housing of the British athletics and traning centres for other sports
