Seems utterly barbaric but I wonder if this is what some people in this country would like to see happen here?

Should we stamp on Sharia law before it gets the chance to get a hold in the UK?

Yes
It does seem barbaric, but isn't what he did to his victim barbaric also ...
I don't advocate sharia law.
///Should we stamp on Sharia law before it gets the chance to get a hold in the UK///

I didn't realise there was any danger of it getting hold.......
that is barbaric, and no we shouldn't be adopting any part of Sharia Law, that is here already in part means we haven't succeeded.
No I wouldn't but it would be interesting to see how many Christians and Jews a well as Muslims approve of this since it says in their holy book ' An eye for an eye'.
Wouldn't Sharia Law punishments such as these be blocked by the European Court of Human Rights

Assuming we retain that HR protection in the UK that is
"I didn't realise there was any danger of it getting hold....... "

take you blinkers off
"Assuming we retain that HR protection in the UK"

would that be the the wonderful protection that allows a scumbag described by a judge " as an extremely dangerous man" to stay here ?
Who do reckon would like to such a barbaric thing to happen in the UK?
it is here, in the form of courts for marital disputes, etc, this chap isn't a white, far right extremist.

Shar - an eye for an eye and turn the other cheek.

That's right baz

Not without its drawbacks, but clearly on balance the ECHR is very useful if it helps block these sorts of barbaric punishments and a shining example of european civilisation
Christians have played their part in barbarous practices over the centuries, however one would hope we have moved on a bit since then. Sharia law the way it is depicted in that saudi piece, would never happen.
Can I just ask all the people calling for Philpots to be put do death - are now against this?

WHY?
You don't stop being human if you have committed a crime, however vile. Human rights only seem to apply to criminals because all the rest of us never have these cases brought against us.

keep up JTH there are sharia courts operating in UK now.

Te old eye for an eye maxim often seems compelling till this sort of thing comes up. Yes it's barbaric, religion is barbaric.
I wonder how many here would be up in arms if Philpott had been sentenced to suffer the same fate as his children?
i would be sandy, however i have no problem with his sentence.
Cheers, geezer, but I do keep up.........

"In 1996, Parliament passed the Arbitration Act setting out rules under which parties in a dispute have the right to go to an impartial tribunal to get justice without expensive litigation. Muslims lawyers interpreted this as meaning that sharia courts could act as arbitration panels under the Act, they began in 2007, and their decisions are legally binding."

Which is a little different from the scenario offered up in the OP.

If their system calls for "an eye for an eye" then it's up to them. Glad we are not subject to Sharia Law here in UK though.
