Why are the Met not concerned enough to request the Home Secretary to ban all anti-Thatcher activity in London, as they were in their successful ban on EDL marches?

//So just because a person chooses to take up a certain position in life means that they must be prepared to accept what sh*t is thrown at them,//

If that position is Prime Minister - probably yes

If you can't stand the heat don't start a career in politics
^^^ A bit of stretch to call Grantham the smokey north don't you think?

/// Such protests need to be kept away from the fulneral but for the Express to cite 'just days before the fulneral' is a bit ridiculous ///

At first I thought you were being humorous when you put 'just days before the fulneral' is a bit ridiculous, but then reading back on your other posts I realised it was your continuous incorrect spelling of the word funeral that threw me.

Where do you stand?

Should all protests that could lead to civil unrest be banned? EDL, BNP. AFL, ANL and for want of a collective noun, the ATL (Anti-Thatcher League)?

no, we're saving the cones for Major's demise, triggs, we're going to tie a piece of string along them and call it a cones hotline.
the service is at St Pauls. she is being cremated, so presumably her ashes will be interred someplace.
sp, i would ban the whole lot of them, sadly it's not up to me, this city comes in for flak every damn time, and i for one am sick of it.
A ban would be the last thing the conservatives want. Demonstrations against Thatcher would increase the tories poll ratings.
i don't care about the polls, i care about seeing as city getting smashed up again.
There will be the usual rent-a-crowd Protesters, however it is doubtful that the blue-rinsed ladies of the Tory faithfull will be hurling bottles, stones or spittle-flecked invective in their direction, and thus little likelihood of 'oppositional' disorder.

It remains to be seen quite whether these Anti-Maggie protesters can resist the temptation to help themselves to high-end electrical goods/trainers and thus maintain their grasp of the moral high-ground.
An area where Margaret Thatcher’s ashes are to be laid was being measured up at Chelsea’s Royal Hospital yesterday.

Her remains will be interred at a spot next to her late husband Denis outside the infirmary wing that was named after her.

I'm a little surprised that you've not highlighted the racial aspect of these celebrations.

You didn't seem so reticent during last years riots.

What do you have to say about the racial mix of those celebrating Thatcher's death?

How comes there are absolutely no pictures of blacks and Asians in any of the shots online joining in the celebrations?

Would you like to take this opportunity to commend the ethnic minority communities for not joining in?
Wow. talk about a repressive response - "We should ban all of them".

I would take the opposite view - all peaceful protest should be allowed, so long as it is not specifically calling violent or riotous behaviour. Provided the organisers have complied with the legal obligations about organising a protest, and the group or the subject is legal.
i know a few little old ladies, though they don't go for the blue rinse look these days, nor would they be going i expect, seeing as how most are getting on in years, but i expect the rent a mob to be in attendance, when don't they if it looks like it will kick off..
Interesting to see the Football Association has decided teams will not have minute's silence this weekend.

It just wouldn't happen would it!
why is it repressive, have seen enough crappy marches, demonstrations, kick offs and riots to last me a life time, and those who come off worse are those caught in the middle. And of course any shop or business that takes the fancy of some, who can't resist snaffling some freebies whilst the bobbies are elsewhere.
@Em Of course its repressive to call for banning all demonstrations and protests.

We live in a democrasy, which has the right to free speech, the right to free assembly, and the right of peaceful protest. Wanting to ban everything for the fear that something may kick off and you might personally be somewhat inconvenienced is the height of repressive behaviour and not at all consistent with democratic principles.
do you live here, have any idea of how it grinds to a halt, it's bad enough at the best of times, traffic rarely goes fast, and not just in the centre of town, marches and demo's are not uncommon, and don't often stay peaceful. I doubt if this one will either.
