This man is in a position of authority, he should not be doing this about anyone.
Yes, he should be sacked and so should any police officer similarly tweeting; about anyone regardless of their political allegiance, race, creed etc.

I think there's a very strong argument for people having their iPads, iPhones, laptops etc taken away from them if they have had more than a couple of drinks.
Twitter and Facebook can, when used properly, be wonderful tools - but they are also a brilliant means to display your utter stupidity to the entire world.
Freedom of speech yes...but his comments in his position over-stepped the mark quite badly. There's a difference between what the teacher (earlier this week) is accused of, and this case.

I do like the reference to his salary and the value of his house in the story.
If the police determine that his tweets bring the service into disrepute, If his contract of employment has sections which prohibit actions which bring the service into disrepute, then he should be penalised on those grounds, and that might very well include dismissal - but I must say that once again, many here, and certainly more rabid sections of the press, seem to be very quick to wish to penalise someone and deprive them of their living on the grounds of their own offence at his comments - which were admittedly distasteful and offensive.
So - sack him if he has committed an act of gross misconduct, as defined the terms and conditions of his contract of employment - but not because the Press and the public are offended...

//A Mail investigation identified Sgt Scott as being responsible for an outspoken anonymous Twitter account called ‘ThinBlueSpeck’.//
So he made the comments anonymously and the Mail dug it up and is trying to get him sacked!
Being a Police officer should not mean that you cannot express an opinion on line that is legal no matter how distasteful others might take it.
However the name of the Twitter account may be pertinant - it sounds as if he identifys himself in that as a serving police officer - In that case he is open to being charged with bringing the Police into disrepute and probably should face disciplinary action.

"the Mail are really on the hunt for anyone who didn't worship Maggie"
hardly, these pathetic saddos are not exactly keeping a low profile are they, theyre queuing up for their few seconds of fame.
After this is all over they can fade back into their bitter twisted little existence and look for something else to try and brighten their sad lives.

No irony in that being posted on a forum with a bunch of grown adults sitting around throwing electronic abuse at each other about things that happened decades ago - is there?
Time to go find something more profitable to do for a bit methinks :c(

Unfit to be a Police Officer. It is scum like him that bring the police service into disrepute. Police should be non-political. It would seem that if he witnessed Cameron etc. getting a kicking, he would be loath to intervene. More likely to join in. Not the ideal standards for a serving officer or even a human being.
