He's been arrested by Operation Yewtree police. As I understand it he is in the third section which means someone has accused him of misconduct unrelated to Savile's misconduct. I believe there's a good chance that it will be some kind of sexual misconduct since the police operation has been undertaken to deal with sexual misconduct.

Arresting someone means that there are strict procedures to be followed during the questioning of that person. It acts as a safeguard for the both the Police and the person being questioned.
If at the end of the investigations (including the questioning) it is considered that there is sufficient evidence, the 'suspect' will be charged.
It is best to wait until the 'suspect' is charged before jumping to conclusions.

Apparently there was a news blackout on this case, until it was broken by the Sun newspaper.

There does seem to be a danger that the police are being extraordinarily illberal and abusing their powers in this investigation as well as in the investigations surrounding the hacking enquiries with the newspapers.
Dawn raids, publically named, even if not precisely at the time of arrest it usually comes out within a short time - and they people seem to be remaining under arrest for ages. Neil Wallis, some sort of newspaper guy, was arrested by the police in July 2011. Had to return 3 times to sort out a bail extension. Took until September 2012 before he was finally told that charges had been dropped and he would not face trial. During that time, all that worry for him and family, under suspension from his job. It must be awful. And I say this as someone who does not particularly like Mr. Waliis!

I think in this instance, YMB is right.....

I don't understand how the police can possibly obtain proof about an alleged incident that might have happened maybe forty years ago. Surely it's only one person's word against another. Also how many of these 'victims' who are suddenly coming forward and are oh so traumatised even after forty years, are just trying it on in the hope a big wad of compensation?
dave50, I think victims of sexual abuse are afraid to come forward in case they are not believed (this is what I read anyway) and the reason all these people are coming forward now is because of Saville and his atrocities, it has given them the courage to speak out and good for them I say. They need closure, not compensation - no need to be nasty.
