Leaving aside that I doubt many kids need lessons, why is this being considered as part of the curriculum? I assume in the interest of balance all areas will be covered!. Surely this is one liberal idea too far?

I apologise if this sounds rude - but did you actually read the story?
The Sex Education Forum has made a suggestion in a magazine aimed at teachers. There is absolutely no suggestion that the suggestions will form part of the national curriculum, and there's nothing in the report suggesting that children will be taught how to 'surf pornography' (whatever that means).
Some of the ideas put forward seems sensible:
Pupils aged 14 and over should learn that pornography is acting and not real, that "the sex and bodies are mostly unrealistic
I would agree that within the right context (sex eduction lessons), this would be sensible. However this:
They said that some films could be "helpful"
Sounds very dodgy.

I read the article and it didn't seem to be that they would be advising how to clear history and that x site is better then y site. I agree with the above, in the context given in the article it seems a sensible idea.
I recently discovered my 11 year old surfs the net looking for porn. I was quite shocked. i considered nanny filters, sought advice as to where I stand on this etc etc At work we probably have the best filters going, however I still have unintentionally found depraved bestiality pornography. Not to mention the nurse/catheter fetishes that come up when we are researching products for work. I have been open with him, I check up on him to make sure he's staying safe, I dont want him to feel dirty about something completely natural. Keeping children away from pornography if they use the internet is impossible, so its sensible to educate them in this area.

yes I read it, if an education think tank thinks it's a good idea then it means they'd like to do it. This is the early stages. "teach how to view porn" - took that to mean view it on the popular outlets, eg the net, hence surfing. I now see though they may have meant teach how to understand what it is when they said teach how to view.
