AOG - My use of the phrase 'us' refers to anyone and everyone on the AB.

Any assumption by you that I am referring to my 'mates' is just that - an assumption.

/// AOG - My use of the phrase 'us' refers to anyone and everyone on the AB. ///

And you have the right to speak on behalf of anyone and everyone on AB do you Andy? I can imagine what the response would be if I was arrogant enough to take a similar stance.

/// Any assumption by you that I am referring to my 'mates' is just that - an assumption. ///

No not an assumption, but completely wrong, what I actually said was "Andy-Hughes and his PALS".
Wow, you two.

AOG posts a news story in the news thread. Everyone jumps on his back for doing so. As usual AOG seems to lash out at the tiniest criticism. Pretty silly all round.

Not 'everyone' has jumped on his back and I believe Andy explained his original question.

Just look at the RAF thread and how he harped on about the answer that was removed.
I think it's a good idea. I know there's no precedent for it in the UK, but why shouldn't the monarch abdicate when they feel they're getting too old to do the job, and there's a perfectly reasonable replacement waiting in the wings?

I see no point in the queen hanging on in there as a frail old bedridden thing that's incapable of performing any of the duties she currently does, just because that's what they've always done.

At this rate she'll outlive Charles anyway. He's looking more doddery than she is lately.
aog, I viewed these pictures this am, and my thoughts were. doesn't QB look happy. healthy, contend, and young enough to enjoy her life, id say liz should do the same. and stop parading that frail husband of hers around,

Couldn't agree with you more, although I admire Her Majesty for the many years of dedicated service she has given to this country, it would be nice for her to abdicate now so that both her and Prince Phillip could take a long overdue rest in the short time they both have left.
aog, I don't quite agree with you on admiring the queen. but its time she went.
//I see no point in the queen hanging on in there as a frail old bedridden thing that's incapable of performing any of the duties she currently does, just because that's what they've always done.//

I was listening to something on the radio about this. Unlike the Dutch monarch, who is ‘sworn in’ in a kind of presidential manner, the British monarch is formally ‘crowned’ and promises to remain in office until death – which is why abdication isn’t an option for our queen.
^ Naomi, if the pope can do it, so can Liz.

One has to defend one's self from the many criticisms, false accusations, snide remarks, etc, etc, that I have come to receive.

And it is mainly because I dare to enter threads on subjects that some wish not to be debated, I steadfastly refuse to join the flock, and of course at times I support right-wing views, on what is mainly a left-wing site.
I didn't see any harm in your thread aog.
Ludwig, she can - but perhaps she takes her oaths a little more seriously than that pope took his. ;o)
"at times I support right-wing views". Only at times?

There are also times when, I think, the criticism of your views is fair. Not sure this is one of them, though.
AOG - "And you have the right to speak on behalf of anyone and everyone on AB do you Andy? I can imagine what the response would be if I was arrogant enough to take a similar stance."

Of course I don't, and nothing i have posted suggests even remotely that I am suggesting such a position - you are simply picking a fight, lord knows why with me, you have plenty of more serious oppoisition to be sparring with.

"No not an assumption, but completely wrong, what I actually said was "Andy-Hughes and his PALS".

If tripping me up with semantics makes your day, go right ahead. My misuse of your actual quote does not affect the point i was making.

I think you are being picky and nasty, and there is no need for it, so I think you should stop.

Didn't you throw the first stone?

/// Is there a reason for your post AOG? ///

/// Indeed it is - but simply plucking a news item which at first sight is not especially relavent to us seems unusual - which is why I queryed it. ///

/// My use of the phrase 'us' refers to anyone and everyone on the AB. ///

/// Of course I don't, and nothing i have posted suggests even remotely that I am suggesting such a position ///

You seem to have a short memory since by your very own admittance you did speak for anyone and everyone on the AB.

So please Andy in future just disagree if you must, but please stop trying to have a dig at me.
Obviously being right means a heck of a lot more to you than it does to me AOG, so fine - have your victory, you are right, I am wrong.

OK - feel better now?
None of our business. Whether or not the Queen retires is her decision. She made a promise when she acceded. She has kept it. Why break it now?
God - are you two still at it.

There's more important things in life out there, you know.............

Ed, can we have a Niggling badge?
Not me DT - as I said, I am perfectly OK with AOG having the last word.

Throughout this thread he has been unpleasant and provocative towards me - the very attributes he screams blue murder about when he thinks anyone else is doing it to him.

But I don't share his obsessive need to be perceived as correct 24/7 - it doesn't take ten years off my life if he has his little victories, so I am dipping out of this one - can't say the same for him though, of course.
