/// ‘Nine men – four Syrians, two Iranians, an Egyptian, an Iraqi and a Palestinian – were arrested at the scene on suspicion of immigration offences.’ But it admitted: ‘Four of the men – two Syrians, an Egyptian and an Iranian – have since been released on immigration bail while their cases are considered by the Home Office. ///
Released on bail while their cases are considered????????????
They are illegals, they do not have a case, all of them should have been sent back immediately, we spend far too much time and money on them now as it is, they are not our responsibility.

"If the four were Christians, who had been fighting Islamic fundamentalism on their countries of origin
Would you be quite so high handed about shipping them back? "
Yes, absolutely. And I don't know how much "fighting Islamic fundamentalism" is currently taking place in Palestine (and I certainly cannot be bothered to find out).

The UK is "littered" with "illegals"...........another nine won't make a" hapeth " of difference.
The number caught, let off and just disappear into the countryside is apparently in the thousands. Legislation is there to deport them.....that is if you can find them.
Why they are not put into a "hold" and then deported back is beyond me..............I guess it will boil down to human rights....theirs, not ours.

/// They must have good grounds to claim asylum. That's their case. ///
No problem with that, but there is a correct and legal procedure for claiming asylum but they have not carried it out, so therefore they are 'illegals' having carried out the illegal act of entering another's country without legal permission, end of.

/// Sorry- I thought from the title that this was going to be a joke... I had the sticking tape ready, in case my sides split with laughter, too :) ///
Judging by the quick way they popped out of the top of the flour tanker, it must have contained 'SELF-RAISING FLOUR'. :0)
Well we can still have a laugh, they haven't yet made it illegal have they?

I am playing devil's advocate:
The question about moving to another country is asked on here from time to time. Many posts that they would move to there or there or wherever...
Aren't these immigrants doing the same or trying to do the same? True, they are going about the move the illegal or wrong way, but, they are trying to do the same. Only they are breaking the laws doing it to strive for a 'better' life.
Please do not misunderstand me, I am not saying they are right in doing what they did. They are 100% wrong.

Am I right in thinking that as a rule in such circumstances, isn't the 'persecuted' person supposed to seek asylum in the first country they enter where it is possible to do so?
Many travel through France, Germany, Austria, Holland and Belgium with the specific goal of reaching the UK's shores?
Why is that I wonder?
(Apologies if my cynicism oozes out in this post).
