Have just heard on the news there is a campaign to get rid of lads' mags. There is a call for retailers to remove them or risk being open to legal action. What do you think - are they sexist, pornographic, do they offend you?
I think there is a lot of confusion over the type of lads mags being talked about here as Ummmm said, these are magazines such as FHM and Zoo, not actual porn magazines.
Yes, like that. They are the mags they are trying to ban. They aren't just about the women. They also have articles on cars, football, mens gadgets and so on...
oh zoo and fhm did you mean? they are always on the very top shelf at work next to gay times and viz. they are too big a brand to be banned, that won't happen.
the ones you can see in almost any retailer have naked, near naked women on the front covers, our local shops sell them, not just mags like FHM, or Loaded. Ban them or don't, you can see more on the internet anyway, seems a pointless task by the women who want to see this happen.
not so much, we only get 3 copies of Zoo in, maybe 10 of FHM, might sell a couple of each , the rest get returned. The best selling magazines are crafting, steam trains, fishing and cars.
We used to run a newsagents and were very careful that the mags we on the top shelf and who we sold then to.
One day the father of one of our paperboys who was 13/14 and quite small came in as he had discovered one of the mags in his son's room and wanted to know if we had sold it - naturally we said no but said that we would keep an eye on him. I watched him one morning when he packed his paper bag and he managed to knock a mag off the stand by bumping into it put a newspaper over it and picked it up and put it in his bag. I had a quiet word with him and he was very embarrassed and promised not to do it again - and I don't think that he did - I wonder what he is doing now?
SirAlec, I totally agree with you thats its not so much about the nudity, but the message they send out to young men. For those who say there is no harm in these mags would you be prepared to see your daughter in one? and listen to the comments? However, they should not be banned but made to have unprovocative covers and only available if asked for (like cigarettes) in Supermarkets.
