Charles Saatchi has got his wife, Nigella Lawson by the throat in a restaurant in London. Criticism is being levelled at onlookers who didn't intervene. Would you intervene between man and wife in this situation?

I've no idea how I'd react. I'm very surprised though that if it happened as in that link that the restaurant staff didn't intervene - which makes me think the 'report' has been cleverly edited.
It's hard to imagine how someone who used to be married to the wonderful and sadly missed John Diamond could move on to someone like that.

I think John Diamond died of cancer of the throat. Looks like Nigella has contracted her own variety ...
I'm more likely to call the police than intervene myself I would think.
Because hell has no fury probably like a billionaire thug exposed

I was just mulling over the same thoughts as ichkeria ...
"He has become more reclusive and tetchy" from the report
I think that Sharingam might have a point regarding degenerative disease and it would explain Nigella's reactions.

Yes ichkeria, I remember John Diamond, what a shame he died so young of throat cancer. It was chronicled by him in the papers at the time and I remember following his story. A different man entirely to CS.

If he is descending into dementia or whatever it's very sad for both of them, especially Nigella. But he still can't be allowed to assault his wife like that wherever it happens.

Which is why I'd intervene in the manner I suggested, not steam-roller in rolling my sleeves up. A lot can be gleaned from a polite enquiry and the situation made far clearer.
Yes ladybirder I also followed the story of John Diamond's cancer. Before he contracted it his weekly Times column was one of the first to invite people to hook up and chat via the internet.

I hadn't realised Charles Saatchi was ill, although I'm not sure that changes my opinion.
Would I have intervened? Not sure. Would depend on a lot of factors. It's easy for me to sit here and say "Yes", but ...

We don't know he's ill ichkeria, we're just surmising he might be, to excuse his behaviour.

He might be a nasty bully.
People who inhabit restaurants are like that. If she'd been in a kebab shop, everyone would have rushed ro her aid!
Very true, Just Jude.
I'd like to think I would but probably wouldn't. I'd alert the restaurant owners though.

Police are involved now apparently so we shall see what we shall see.
She can crash at mine if she's at a loose end, wouldn't mind her waking me up with a bacon sarnie!
My husband is 71 and could throttle an Ox with his bare hands. He would lay his hand on me only once and I would be gone like a long dog.
