/// The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan said at least 943 women and girls were murdered in 2011 for allegedly defaming their family’s honour. ///

Why is it always the girls who are punished for staining their families honour?

It is a pity they don't carry out such punishment on their men then there would be no need to crowd our jails with those evil gangs of child abusers.

Perhaps our PM should also attend to Pakistan's human rights record?

True, but the PM is aware of the record. Look, so are you and I, and we don't claim to know about it than he does.

Why are honour killings and attacks always on females? Because humans tend to think that a boy who sows wild oats is just being a lad but the girl is the one who brings home the baby. Primitive societies will punish the girl first and only kill the boy because he was an outsider mixing with their daughters.

// It is a pity they don't carry out such punishment on their men. //

115 men were murdered in Pakistan honour killings in 2011.
Oh well, that's alright then.
an appalling indictment of women's rights, none it would seem
An appalling illustration of a backward culture!
indeed, and as i mentioned on another thread some if they have the time or inclination, watch the programme that was on a few days ago on BBC 3, about sexism, and the patriarchial system in India. The young British asian woman was truly shocked at the level of brutality and sexual violence that pervades the society, she has been raised here i believe and so her parents have a different attitude entirely. I would do a catch up on i player, beware of the scenes of the young woman who was burned by acid, that is almost unbearable to watch, but shows exactly how women are thought of.
this is the programme, told from the perspective of a British Asian woman, it does have some very upsetting scenes

Thanks Em.
if you watch it on catch up, be warned its very graphic in parts. the attitude of the men is appalling.
Be very aware, there are people here in the UK ( some use Answerbank) who would like those antiquated laws & rules to be operating here.

WR.
WR, perhaps but one hope sense will prevail. Time to stop courts in UK, that operate outside of UK law by the way, it's unlikely to happen but it should.
////Last year four women are believed to have been killed by tribal elders for dancing and singing with men at a wedding party in the remote north-western village of Kohistan in Pakistan.////

At least the language or wording for the incident that happened last year has changed. Now it is "believed" to have been killed.

Any way all those girls are still alive and on the order of Pakistan Supreme court were brought to Islamabad as the court wanted to make sure they were alive. I am sure these two girls along with their mother would reborn again but unfortunately DM will never report that.

Finally, I do agree that in very remote areas of Pakistan people have their own traditions and culture and majority of the things are wrong. But then there are so many other countries that have traditions or cultures that we may not agree with. But incidents in few countries are being projected more than normal due to American war on terror. But now Americans have learnt the lesson and are trying their heels over head best to have dialogue with people they once branded terrorists (I predicted years ago). Soon this propaganda war would disappear or come to normal proportion. Wait and see.
Two words from me: despicable savages!!
Ahh there you are keyplus. Any reason why you didn't return to the 'Mosque Sermon on Grooming' thread? A little pointless to make a long comment then disappear. Seems it is a habit of yours.

Keyplus - // I am sure these two girls along with their mother would reborn again but unfortunately DM will never report that.//
Are you suggesting that these people will be resurrected (Come back to life) or is it just that I misunderstand you.
chrisgel, I don't think you misunderstood - the mind boggles. The beliefs of those people is beyond comprehension.

When I relate to my God I stand with feet firmly on the floor and my head held high.
Unlike some who have their face firmly on the floor and their a**e held high.
Keyplus - //Any way all those girls are still alive and on the order of Pakistan Supreme court were brought to Islamabad//

I can find no reference to this happening. Would you kindly provide a link that backs up your assertion.
I find this sort of thing is horrible as the next man, but I really don't think you should call the criminals "savages" as if they are somehow not quite human. The point is that they are humans, and that is what is so scary. That humans can do this to each other and not blink an eye. But calling them "savages" ignores that this is just, sadly, normal human behaviour for many of us, much of the time.
