Is hoping to gain by this.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2353250/Channel-4-broadcast-daily-Muslim-prayer-Ramadan-month.html

I'm curious as to why they are doing this. I would imagine that most Muslims would already have something in place and would also presume judging by some of the comments (Yes I know it's the Mail but their readers are viewers too)
that this will alienate some.
So I can only see a lose/lose situation here.
Any thoughts?

I'd be rather more concerned about the entire channel dedicated to Christianity that is God TV, which yesterday had a series of programmes dedicated to rubbishing Science in favour of Creationism. That's far more disturbing, frankly, that prayers at 3am that most of the Target audience already have covered anyhow.

/// Joke: ///

/// Q. Do you know how the Grand Canyon was formed ?
A. A Scot dropped a penny in a golf hole. ///

Oh so because you think Scots are mean then that is a joke, They are not mean at all, I know of many Scottish people who would give you their last penny.
then ask for it back, lol... x
// Oh dear haven't any of the usual suspects commented yet on The Sun's humorous approach to this story? //

Ramadan a ding dong? ..very predictable. I swear I nearly posted a comment earlier asking if the Sun had written the 'Ramadan a ding dong' headline yet, but thought better of it.

/// Perhaps we don't read The Sun? ///

Perhaps that is why you have such tunnelled beliefs, you are not prepared to read the source of many different view points.

Even the Guardian are prepared to report on both sides of the issue, even I wouldn't have know that if I also wasn't prepared to read other newspapers.

Try it sometime it may widen your learning.
AOG exactly so. The Scots "joke" is only funny if you believe all Scots are mean. You assert correctly that that is not so. Only someone ignorant or prejudiced would think it funny now.

Your Muslim joke is only funny if you believe Muslims don't work. Only someone...etc
Do you also read the Times, The Economist, The Independent and the Daily Mirror, AOG?
do you, does anyone, who has time, very few people, unless they are so old, or don't get out much. Bet he reads any number of papers, but gets slated for the one...

/// Do you also read the Times, The Economist, The Independent and the Daily Mirror, AOG? ///

The Times, no because one has to subscribe to read their web-site, the Economist no, but then I also don't read The Daily Worker or The Peking Times, but I do read the Independent and also the Daily Mirror.

What newspapers do you read Jim?
When it's available, The Times, and most of my news I get from the BBC. I'm certainly not going to claim I read most of the newspapers. Then again, I don't make snide remarks about people's learning, either.
AOG

I am going out on a limb here - but I don't think you know what I read. Am I right?
AOG

Did you not see my post where I wrote:

Unless a demographic is (fairly or, in most cases, unfairly) associated with a particular character trait, the joke doesn't work

Why do you then go on to say that I think of Scots as being mean?

Scots meanness, like that of Jews is a standard comedy trope. It's like black men being lazy and Irish being stupid.

These aren't rules I've laid out...I'm just referring to them.

So I ask again...why do you think Muslims are workshy? It's something I've never come across before.
some of our local Muslims are not workshy they keep lots of girls in employment.
sp1814

/// It's like black men being lazy and Irish being stupid. ///

No the difference there being, one is not allowed to suggest that since they face the risk of being labelled a racist.
em10

/// some of our local Muslims are not workshy they keep lots of girls in employment. ///

Oh dear I am not going down that road, i will get my coat.
and they keep the local pharmaceutical people in business too, not workshy, just lovely boys...
A step in the right direction.
why is it?
Why is it not?
AOG

Exactly - if you presuppose someone's character simply because they fall into a certain group, then of course you'd be called a racist.

Why wouldn't you?

See,s straightforward.

So do you think that Muslims are workshy?
sorry keyplus i don't know what you are actually referring to, having prayers televised or ?
