You would have thought that when the Police are in a hole, they would stop digging. But apparently its OK now to secretly bug prospective prosecution witnesses, as the Police wanted an "unassailable record"

You couldn't make it up, could you ?

Sorry..posted in the Crossword section first by mistake !
McPherson concluded there was "institutionalise racism in the Metropolitan Police". Everything that keeps coming out about how the victms of this crime were treated, tend to confirm that judgement.

It appears they investigated the murdered victim a lot more thoroughly than they investigated the suspects. It was only after a high profile public campaign by the Daily Mail, were the police shamed into doing a proper job.

Far be it for me to praise the Daily Mail, but Gromit is right here. They played a very important part in the eventual conviction of some of the thugs that were responsible for Stephen's death, and for that we can all be thankful.

There are others still out there that are guilty and they must be brought to justice as well. But even after all the exposure of Police incompetence and institutional racism, I still have very little faith in the Met doing anything approaching a proper job in this sad affair.

Its been seen on the news these last few days that the British Police are to investigate the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. It would be wonderful if they have some success but I hope the McCann family haven't got their hopes up too much.
I do not think the McCann case and the Lawrence case are comparable. For a start, the McCann police seem very incentivised to get a result. The Lawrence police were not.
God it seems we have the "usual suspects" contributing on Stephen Lawrence !
Shake a light fitting at a police station hard enough and out falls one of the bizzies.

Was it fair enough ? read on. Was it legal ? The lawyer implied that if she were asked she might have said yes we need a record....

BUT recollect at the time - Duwayne wasnt a Lib Dem councillor - he was a bit of a wild one. Recollect Stephen's mother walked into the police station on The Night pointed at Duwayne and said 'I knew you would be involved somehow'.
Duwayne has lost it at the murder scene - it was successfully pleaded that D was behaving so badly that 'he had to be arrested' and that was the reason why the police ignored Stephen.
Then D lost it at the Coroner's Court
then I think he lost it at the first murder trial....

anyway if became a by-word that you could get away with anything in Lawrence affair by baiting Duwayne and he would oblige by losing it Big Time.

Times were different then
well Gromit I am not sure Portuguese Police were that incentivised about Madeleine. They were unresponsive to the danger that if a child were abducted and they shrugged and said we just dont know,
that they would screw their own tourist industry....

yet alone show any desire to solve the case.

If you are the parents and the police thay - you are the arguidoth - the main thtuthpects- you as parents know you are onto a complete loser - and they were .
Don't think the Portuguses Tourist industry has been screwed by their apparent failures in the McCann case. It made no difference to visitor numbers. The Portuguses police apparently did a bad job, but it is unclear why.

The McPherson Report went some way to finding out why the Police made a bad job of the original Lawrence investigation.

Peter pedant...Duwayne was awfully unlucky to see his best friend murdered in front of him, wasn't he ? And then he was even more unlucky to have some of most stupid, racist Policemen in London investigate the affair and make a complete dogs breakfast of it.

He will obviously have to be a lot more careful next time he walks down the street...what a silly boy !
