Can I point out that she is not getting this peerage because her son was murdered, she is getting this peerage because of the work she has done to stamp out racism and her work in the community!

I agree
So do I
Though her fight for justice for her murdered son is admirable, I am not sure that alone deserves a peerage.
A life Peer for what??????????????

Anyone care to explain?
For her fight against racism and her community spirit
Sigh ...

Well, she deserves a Peerage better than some ex-Captain of Industry, who gets it by "buggers turn"

Deserves it better than some ex-crony of Thatcher, who thought that it was better do fracking Opp North, where nobody would notice, rather than the Tory-voting are around Guildford.

I echo your sigh.

Had it not been a Coloured person, would that question ^^^^ have been asked, I wonder?
Helen Newlove was similarly honoured after her husband Garry was murdered.
I do not remember others questioning that Peerage at the time.

Equally, I do not believe that was merited either.

Coloured ? Coloured ?

God, its like being back in the 1950's sometimes here on AB !

I wonder what difference there is?

Helen Margaret Newlove, Baroness Newlove is a Warrington-based community reform campaigner who was appointed as the Victims' Commissioner by the UK government in 2012. Wikipedia
Here was AOGs take on the Helen Newlove Peerage.

// I am sure since her horrible loss she has done so very much in the fight against crime.

But being made a peer of the land, is in itself most beneficial, and I am sure that it unlocks many doors that would otherwise remain locked to the 'ordinary' person. //

A somewhat different reaction?
Oh dear.
Balcombe is nowhere near Guildford, mikey.
Re: Helen Newlove...

Ha ha ha ha ha....

Furthermore...ha ha ha ha ha.

I wait with bated breath for AOG's response.

This is going to be a blockbuster.

(I might get some popcorn...)
I'm ordering a Chinese ;-)
