Good to see you back, DrFilth. Has it really ever been much different though? When were the good times?

Good to see you back, DrFilth.

The people in power NOW are trying to tidy up the mess left by that last lot in power.

It is very easy to criticize those trying to sort out the mess.

But the blame really lies with Blair and Brown who managed to bankrupt this country.
People have always struggled Em - that's not really the point.

This recession has been a bit odd - there have been a lot less people thrown out of work than in previous ones but people's wages have frozen or raised hardly at all while at the same time the cost of living has been going up significantly.

People with a bit of a financial cushion are now living one paycheck to another and those who were living like that are in serious trouble.

Meanwhile in an unrelated story the Wonga people paid donations to the Tory party to have meetings with ministers

Nice try VHG but blaming it on 'the last labour government' is wearing a bit thin now.

When are the Tories going to man up and start taking responsibility for their mess?

more people work in the public sector, and are still being employed, by and large they are not cash generatorsw, business does that, keep good businesses, one that employ workers and we should be going some place.
however it suits Labour to have more people working in the public sector because it would seem to me they are more likely to be Labour voters. Like the Unions, are any likely to be conservatives...
Not surprised by this at all. I work for a Polling company and my experience of talking with people is that most of them are find things difficult. Not the ones with 2 BMW's in the drive of course, but most everybody else. They are concerned about gas and electricity prices in particular. Lots of people are working on the minimum wage and/or few hours.

Of course not everyone is struggling.

factor-fiction i think ed is a waste of space
the hardest hit are the middle income people - they are the ones that have lost out a lot in the last few years.
Yes, Mikey. I was going to say my gas and electricity prices have gone up so much recently. Need to look around, i think. But the trouble is, they can all beat each others direct debit, but it doesn't mean they're cheaper, just that you owe them at the end of the quarter. Hard to tell.
i know more about property prices in the capital than most, having seen the rent, and particularly buy sector go though the roof. I only have to look around me and other boroughs. Most people can't afford the kinds of prices the agents are asking, only multi millionaires and overseas investors can afford to.
Emmie, I worked in the public sector and we were no more likely to vote Labour than in any other profession, certainly a many voted Conservative. There were cuts in staffing levels, people left and were not replaced, it's not only in the private sector that this happens.
pixie, British Gas have announced that they may well cut charges for customers at weekends, will see if i can find the link
//more people work in the public sector, and are still being employed, by and large they are not cash generators//

what a dumb thing to say!- that's the whole point of the public sector!

That doesn't mean that they are not valuable

Where do you think all that money came from when public sector organisations were privatised.?

It came from all the value generated by all the people working in them
