I thought that, mikey, when I saw him on TV last night. Poor man.
yes how does one ever get over that? A sickening story all round.

I wish these child cruelty cases didn't upset me so much. It took me a long time to even begin to recover from the poor Philpott kids, murdered by their parents ( I know that the court verdict wasn't murder but it was murder just the same )

I expect that there will be more cases like this, so I had better toughen up I suppose, but it just makes me so blo0dy MAD !
i do feel terribly sorry for him, but i don't understand why firstly he left UK, and secondly he said that his wife had issues with drink, drugs, why didn't he take the boy with him. I wouldn't have left him with anyone with those problems. And surely her problems didn't just come on suddenly, so did she have them as he suggests when they were married. I am not blaming him, but listening to her mother go on about how it was all Britain's fault and the British people for not looking after her grandson, i wonder no one was able to take him home to Poland.
Mikey, I know what you mean - I feel impotent to do anything about these cruelty case (I couldn't anyway, but I want to). Animal cruelty bugs me, likewise.
@ emmie

Whilst I agree with you somewhat I think you have to take in to account two things. One, he would never have expected this to happen and two, the child's mother has been proven to be a pathological and clever liar. We don't know [I assume] what attempts he made to take the child with him or see the child after he left.
There are only two people to blame for this childs death and they are where they belong.

I do feel sorry for this man, but I do wonder why he had no contact with his son for I believe was over 2 years. someone posted that the mother would not allow him to have contact. but there were other avenues he could have taken to get contact. ,

I expect it will all come out in the Serious Case Review, but if this ghastly couple managed to fool the school, social services and the police, it would seem to me that Daniels' own Dad didn't stand much of chance in having any control over what happened. I suppose he could just have picked him and taken him back to Poland, but then the papers might have been full of "kidnapped child" stories.
he left when the boy was 1, not sure how much contact he had, but if i had been him, and with hindsight we could do so much, i would have taken him back to Poland. If he didn't have a passport, i would have applied to the British Government, Polish government and told them of my concerns. Terrible terrible case.
mikey, people aren't all that stupid, i suspect that this really boils down to we mustn't interfere, keep the family together. if the woman was so clever why was she a drink and drug addict as she has been portrayed. Lies can be seen through, and the child must have had enough injuries and been seen according to the news last evening dozens of times by those in authority.
Well it appeared the abuse didn't start until she got with the new boyfriend. How was the father suppose to foresee that?

If the child was born in the UK then the father couldn't have took him to Poland without the mothers permission.
The natural father must bear some responsibility for the boy's death. Surely in the time between him leaving and the boy's death, he had visited?
I wonder if he is also the father of the sibling at the same school. I wonder what has happened to that wee one.
You cannot blame anyone for this but the two people that carried it out.

We know nothing about their private relationship.
Lyn, I don't think so - as others say, he may not have rights of access and didn't know any of this was going on.

I don't know anything about the sister, I wonder where she is?
from the fathers own words, he said she was violent, threatened to stab him and cheated on him with someone who lived with them. The mother and partner did this i know, but if she was such a violent drunk as he says, why couldn't he have alerted someone. Police were called according to him, but that's a domestic, so what could they do, apart from separate them in some way.
in foster care i would have thought...
The majority of people in violent relationships don't torture their children.
Very sadly it only seems that his torture took place within the last few months - the photos from a year ago, he looks fine.
from the newspapers.

They also hoodwinked the authorities who then missed crucial opportunities to save the boy who had been starved for six months.
