As if any girl who goes to the trouble of dressing for a night out clubbing is going to worry about the taxi fare at the end of the evening.

Well, in my day (60's) I have gone out dressed in less than the dresses photographed in that article and been quite safe in the King's Road Chelsea, but I do think that there were different expectations of sexual activity then even though it was the swinging sixties.
Will scantily clad blokes get discount too?
I am not quite sure how to put this and I absolutely agree that the defence that "she/he was asking for it by being dressed/acting like that" is NEVER acceptable but I am not sure that its the council or the taxi driver's duty to "nanny" adults who don't take care of themselves.
Maybe the cabbies will like to offer reduced fares to increase trade, maybe they won't want to increase the number of times that they have to hose the cab out?

Well, it might save money in the long run.....from the Police budget, etc.

One might be tempted to ask "Should the elderly enjoy free public transport?"..........if one wanted to play Devil's Advocate.

Different subject. Taxis are in demand late at night. Running empty trains/busses is in no one's interest.

I took the view that the OP was regarding one group (scantily-dressed women) receiving preferential treatment...........and, as Devil's Advocate, merely extended the principle. :o)

yes boxy, we always made sure that we had "mad money' stashed when we went out so that if the night ended in needing to get home alone, we could do so safely. Do folk not do that now?

I don't think many people get attacked because of what they are wearing tbh. Rape and sexual assault tends to be about power and control. People in jeans get raped...
