US Senator John McCain has been caught playing poker on his iPhone during a key hearing about the possible use of military force in Syria.
He played a few hands under the table during Tuesday's Senate Foreign Relations Committee meeting, which was hearing from the likes of Secretary of State John Kerry and Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel.
Despite being snapped by an eagle-eyed Washington Post photographer, the influential senator - who ran for President in 2008 - laughed off the matter.
He tweeted: "Scandal! Caught playing iPhone game at 3+ hour Senate hearing - worst of all I lost!"

Gromit, if he was that was the case then no need to even be there, but if he was then it was to lend support. Doing anything else on a meeting is rude at the very least and I think in this case also shows utter contempt.
I think the American gung-ho attitude over all this is not good at all. I generally support the Americans, but not in this case. Obama could go down in history but for all the wrong reasons.
Just for the record I get very annoyed when people surf the net during meetings at work; and yes I do tell them not to bother attending if they cant be bothered to pay attention.

I'd be very surprised if he was actually gambling real money - but the association of poker with gamling is bad enough.
In the US gambling is much more of an issue than it is here - having said that he does rather cultivate a bit of a Boris-esque mavrick image so I'll reckon he'll ride it out without too much damage.
If it had been Obama that would have been way more damaging

Yes it would be quite shocking,if whilst Cameron was making his speech, his Mps were playing games on their phones. Two of them went one better and sat in a sound proof room , which they did not know had been sound proofed, and missed the vote because they did not hear the bell. Makes you wonder if they knew why the Mps had been recalled from their holiday???
