I imagined them to be like smaller versions of A&E but away from other sick patients, medical staff available and supervision for the possible dangers, too dangerous and a possibly liability nightmare otherwise with the threat of litigation. They have done similar things previously round here, think they had one last Christmas for people also with...

What would happen to the kids now trigger?

will there be monitoring? One huge risk with being dead drunk is vomit inhalation. If they do it assed out in the street then its nobody's responsibility but as soon as a service picks people up and takes them somewhere then they become responsible
It's a great idea and about time.

I would also like to see pub and club landlords prosecuted for serving alcohol to the obviously drunk which is a breach of the licensing laws.
lower the strength of beer, it was not as strong in the 70s
It's not for people who are 'a bit pissed'. It's for those incapable of looking after themselves.

Police chief who was on Sky news this am and whis idea it is, stated it was only for those incapable of looking after themselves.
so you putting someone who is incapable of looking after themselves into a drunk tank is a good idea? i think its dangerous

i do agree that people who are putting a strain on resources by getting drunk and causing problems for the police and or a&e should be made to pay. I'm don't think drunk tanks are a good idea, there are too many things that could go wrong

Can't see that a drunk tank would be any more dangerous than a police cell, overworked A&E unit or lying unconscious in the gutter.
Would you want gobby, drunk mother at home looking after the kids?
-- answer removed --
for me the drunk tank is worse as we don't know how this is to be managed and by who (ignoring the gutter) the police cell and overworked a&e have a degree of assumed security/professional care

someone who is vomiting in a drunk tank and chokes under the care of ???? if there is more than one person to a tank, is there a chance of abuse???

i'm just not sure that is the answer
I've already said, it's not for gobby mothers who get a bit pissed.
There's a Chief Inspector on tv at the moment and the police are going to call them "welfare centres".
I assume he means ''football grounds'' to cope with the intake

mcfluff, how do you imagine a drunk tank to be?
i have no idea, a holding cell of some sort with drunk people in it

I'm concerned about the safety of people in them, whether its their own fault or not. I agree that people who go out and get smashed and cause trouble or are out of control should pay for their care/help. but without more info i don't think drunk tanks are the right idea
