I wondered how long it would be. No doubt a few more £1m council houses in central London to be found and all the relatives to be put on benefits and free health care once they get in.

How long before they pile into the ECHR to get maximum benefits?

It says they are threatening to jump off a roof. Sounds like the problem will be solved naturally to me.
What I don't understand is they are already in France, under EU rules they must apply for asylum in the first safe country. Now it may be a bit of a forest Gump but France is sort of safe isn't it? I wonder why they are demanding to come to soft touch Britain?....err hang on!

How much of their coming to Britain is to do with us being a "soft touch", and how much is to do with some impression that other countries are not nearly so pleasant to live in? I don't know the answer to this, but I expect that the "soft touch" view is one that's mainly an opinion held by people who've lived here for a long time rather than (the majority of) those who are coming here for safety.

Personally I'd be embarrassed if people came to my country only so they could get to the next one along -- but that's just me.

I'm not sure it's so easy to assess. Firstly "soft touch" seems to have different meanings to different people anyway -- and secondly how much of what makes the news here makes it in the same way elsewhere in the world? I'm not so convinced that the word in the corners of Africa is "Come to Great Britain because they won't be able to throw you out again!" -- more likely, surely, to be some form of fields paved with gold view?

There are probably exceptions, but I'd expect that most people who come here do so with reasonable intentions, at least to start with. At any rate there will be varied motives, from honest to not so honest -- but you should expect that, because so many people are coming here and like any other group of people there will be variation.
