Let's Nuke London ...
57 Answers
I say chaps - let's just nuke the parasitic sh't hole that is London & then the rest of us can get on with being a proper country - without all the w'nkers that seem to think we owe them a living ...
Which seems the only proper response to the botox being spouted by the prawn-sandwich-munching intelligentsia here :

And Zacs to reply. Threads deviate and develop, often for the better. Also, some of us would rather confront issues head on rather than resort to reporting (like children) every little thing we don't like.
OK - some comments from me.
Firstly : I'm sorry that I've upset mikey with my intemperate language - we usually sing from similar (albeit not identical) hymn sheets, so I feel I owe him an explanation.
I was utterly outraged by the concept that one (rich) part of the UK could just consign other (poor) parts of the UK to the scrapheap - that outrage spilled over into a deliberately over-the-top response, designed to provoke argument. It probably didn't actually need the sweary words, but that was how I felt as I typed it and so that's what I posted. I'm genuinely sorry it caused offence.
Secondly : Apologies to many (actually, virtually all) Londoners, who are scuffling along, making a living in the same way as the rest of us do outside the M25.
The 'London' I want rid of is the self-styled Metropolitan Elite - the Westminster Village, the Media, the City of London, the Bankers and Accountants, the modern day aristocracy that is fiddling whilst the fire they are fuelling burns the country.
They have sucked the wealth from our work and natural resources for too long - and before anyone starts with the 'they make the money that keeps us afloat', let's remember that they are 100% responsible for the financial crash that the rest of us are paying for.

Dave..please excuse me for this but I must ask Svejk what it is about Mikey that allows him the right and perhaps duty to air his views openly on this thread yet others, on a different thread, are accused of bullying by disagreeing with the OP in a much more civilised and polite manner than Mikey has done here?
Double standards or a little bit of "let's see the fur fly" stirring?

I didn't report anyone to the editor,on the other thread, gness.
And I didn't say no-one could criticize gollob, either. I said when half a dozen people make the same criticism it smacks of band-wagon jumping and bullying.
Being something of a 'knight in shining armour' I'd have taken up cudgels on Dave's behalf if a page full of people had joined mike and laid into him.
You ought to drop this now, cos while we're both stubborn (irish) people, I'm a man. ;)

I actually have some sympathy with the Economist's original article... there are vast swathes of the UK where growth is extremely difficult because their economic base (be it manufacturing/mining/whatever) has died out. It's fairly futile to keep pumping money into trying to manufacture growth in such hostile conditions.
And the Economist did not suggest "abandoning" them, they just suggested the money that goes into them being spent in a different way - i.e. making it easier for people to work in areas where there are better growth prospects. This does not exclusively mean "London".

Gness..where have I been uncivilised or impolite with any contributor here on AB ? What am I supposed to say when I disagree with someone ? That everything is lovely and nice ?
Perhaps we should all go on a course of writing in the style of Jane Austen, just so we can answer posts in such a way that we offend nobody ?
