you get two thirds of the way through scanning, then the system says "Authorisation Required". So you stand there like a lemon for up to 5mn. when no-one arrives (which is common) what are you supposed to do? I've got a life, I haven't got time for Tesco to decide whether they're going to help me. Of course I walk.

I use them if the checkouts are backed up but it's usually counterproductive what with the time it takes with

"Unexpected item in the bagging area"

"Seek assistance"

But like Woofy, there are two miserable cows that work the checkouts and I'd rather pull teeth than use their till so I'd definitely use self service over them

and surprisingly, I've got to send some money to the taxman - they only want a cheque, there is no facility to pay by BACS. That does surprise me.
i use them as i usually buy small amounts at a time, sainsburys ones are good, morrisons are dreadful.

I did get accused of stealing the other day, my bananas caused an issue and the grumpyarse assistant couldn't tell the difference between cress and chives so was adamant i was putting goods through as the wrong product to get a cheaper price (despite them being barcoded) on this occasion it would of been quicker to go to a manned till

we get queues at our unmanned tills, and since there has to be at least two trouble shooter staff, it all seems a waste of effort to me.
jno - this is a prior year underpayment, they've sent me a form and an envelope to send it back to them....
they offer interaction with customers, eg "do you want to cancel" or "remove item from scale" that has me scratching in a cloud of dandruff, kicking & f@#€¥#€%g
9 times out of 10 I have to call the assistant over for some reason or another so I might as well have queued up at the non-self-service tills. I always seem to have a problem scanning vouchers.

The good news is, if you are going to steal using the self serve tills, you could get away with it up to 20 times...

I never thought of doing that! Think of the money you could save. Especially if you vary the loose veg rather than just onions!
Our Tesco has just introduced the scan as you shop - tried it once - took multi attempts to scan a bag of Maltesers!

I prefer the human tills.
the one and only time I used them. six people had gathered behind me as I was trying to scan 3 items! oh help ma boab :)

I pay underpayments online too, Boxtops... sob...
