Why wouldn't Pakistanis object to being described as Indian? They're not, neither are Bangladeshis who are also often referred to as Pakistani or Indian.

you can probably use "South Asian" for what used to be called the Indian subcontinent - Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan.

It took a very long time to stop my later mother-in-law from using the 'N' word. We never managed to convince her that 'black' was ok, but 'coloured' was unacceptable. To her mind 'black' was offensive.

In France black people also use the word Black and not Noir. I don't know why and when I ask neither do they... I also don't know as what point a black person is no longer considered black. I know a family very well; the mother is of mixed race and the father white. The children have no black features but are considered black! If they have children to white spouses will they still be considered black? Also Barack Obama is as much white as he is black but considered the first black president of the USA; sometimes I don't get it!

Yes, baz, a mass stabbing in New York is more important than whether 'coloured' is racist but the Daily Mail thinks the story which gives rise to the latter question is important enough to print, so who are we to argue about the significance?

And President Obama looks black to me. It is what he looks like, not what his parentage is, that matters; I have a black bitch whose sire was white, but nobody would call her a white dog or doubt that she is really black, and the same must apply to humans.
