do you work, pay tax, he does, the royal family no matter what you think do bring in enormous revenue to UK, if you think they are all bludgers, then that is your prerogative, however i think it would be worse under a Presidency, think of Blair being in office and the damage he did and could have done had he higher powers.
How long has the Duchy had this perk - Centuries.

Yes Emmie I do work and pay taxes , Do You???.
so you pay tax mandatorily, he pays it voluntarily, and Amazon don't pay it at all... are you sure you're aiming at the right target here?
Hawksley he pays income tax as the person who is the Duke of Cornwall. What is getting the tax advantage is the Duchy of Cornwall which is a separate legal entity.
Don't call that work. Turning up at functions and being nice is what other folk do in their leisure time. They are totally superfluous these days, and any suggestion they bring in money is, IMO, a delusion. If one got rid of this nonsense then there could not be any arguments over it, including details of what tax should and should not be paid.
if it's your job, then it becomes work, OG.
Perhaps but I don't call that a job. It has no function other than to please foreign visitors who also have no function.
diplomacy has value, I think, even if it may be incalculable.

Royalty have a crucial 'function' in our 'Constitution'

Whether that involves arduous labour or not it is a significant responsibility

All the major elements of state that thankfully in this country are above politics; military, police, judiciary etc

swear allegiance to the monarch and no one else
