Typical Americans. The slightest hint of a humanitarian crisis and they can't wait to get stuck in and 'save some ass'. Who elected them the world's 'ambulance service?' Did we get a vote?

What a surprise, willing lapdog, the UK is only to glad to wag it's tail along with the other western cronies.

Let's face it, this is about oil. the only reason they are sending planes, aircraft carriers and troops is to prop up their arms industry. Did they think we would be fooled into not seeing the significance of the phillipines strategic proximity to china?

What about an exit strategy? has anyone given that any thought? At this rate we could be re-building infrastructure, schools and hospitals for years to come, all at the expense of western taxpayers.

When are we in the west going to start listening to the likes of george galloway and stop meddling in the internal affairs of other countries?
When are we going to stop getting involved? Bloody Americans and their western allies!

Thanks for the advice andy but I see no castigation. Satire works best when even those its supports get stuck in.:)
And I thought I was cynical . . . . .
Perhaps castigation was a little strong doctordb, but your point to AOG was a little sarcastic, and some of our senior members are a little sensitive in these areas.

fair enough andy. :)

jtp - 'jimmy saville and peadophiles'.

you're a satirists dream.
Oh I see write something totally offensive, and then when challenged by most, just escape any further outrage by saying it was a piece of satire.

Must remember that one for future reference, because let's face it most of my posts attract much criticism from some.
Satire?

No, an excuse for an anti US/British rant with it sat in the background for an excuse when exposed as in bad taste.
Just seen yours AOG, we must have crossed

Great minds .....
AOG and OMB - humour is in the eye of the reader ... or not.
YMB sorry - I am trying to eat a sausage roll while writing ...
I think BOO will agree with you doc, but if it was animals in the same predicament she would be the first to help!
Doctorb, you've created something that the left-wingers think is pro-american and the right-wingers think is anti-american. That's quite a feat.

First in & collect infrastructure contracts; thats trade! Or should we back off & let China benefit?

Whoever assists, benefits…thats friendship or allies
AOG and YMB...it isn't often that I agree with you both but I am with you here. If this post was supposed to be funny or some kind of satire, just what was supposed to be funny ?

Ludicrous post, in very bad taste.
Satire or not, it's important to understand that one of the main reasons for deploying the USS George Washington and its escort ships is captured in this part of a news release:

"... “The helicopters, which provide logistic support-getting things both in and out. We also have on board the carrier a significant medical capability," Marks said. "So, we can provide a lot of treatment both there on the carrier and on land. In addition, we have the ability to make water. And, that's one of the things that's most critically needed, usually, is water.”

The aircraft carrier's distilling plants can hold 1.5 million liters of water, enough to supply 2,000 homes...

The carrier has around 25 helicopters of various sizes and capabilities on board.

I've personally seen the medical facilities on one of our carriers and it's amazing to understand just how big and well equipped they are...
AOG, I agree. It would be an easy excuse to say, when attacked, that you weren't being serious in what you wrote; it's easier than trying to defend it on logical grounds.

Did you say that you might try it?
How about a sarcasm / satire / in jest buttons , which each poster must press to indicate when their posts are so intended . That way posters wont be able to use the sarcasm / satire fall back , when they find themselves in a bit of hot water .
//So it's true, satire is dead. //

Not true. Not true, I tell 'e. I laughed out loud at least twice. ;-)

Keep it up.

Thanks clanad...very informative post.
Bazile - "How about a sarcasm / satire / in jest buttons , which each poster must press to indicate when their posts are so intended ."

Interesting idea, but I prefer my satire as intended - for me to realise - and i think that anyone caught out and using 'humour' as a refuge is soon seen through for what they are.
