Further to the forthcoming Scottish independence referendum got me wondering, how come Mr Salmonds can create a Scottish National Party, and go on to seek independence from the rest of the UK?
Yet if an English politician were to set up an English National Party and seek to make England independent from the rest of the UK, not only would that politician most likely be classed by some as extreme far-right wing, and his party also the same, but they would also most likely be labelled little Englanders, racist and fascist.
Why the difference?

I'm fairly new on here and follow this sort of thing with some amusement. SP1814 is clearly not interested in any exchange of opinions. He just wants to have a go at anotheoldgit . One go after the other for all eternity apparently. What a bore.
If I remember correctly, when Scotland and England combined, James I (VI) had to decide where to have his court. He couldn't get out of Scotland fast enough could he. If I remember it correctly he never returned either. There must be a lesson in that somewhere.

I don't agree. it would depend on the person and his party. To date such parties have actually been largely as you describe, which is why they have had that reputation. There doesn't seem to be much support for an independent England outside that constituency. Perhaps there should be.
