hope she makes it, perhaps someone should have given her a lecture on this and not just about the smoking, it might have saved her all the pain.
People just don't think sometimes.

I feel sorry for her. Nobody deserves that.
Well her addiction was.
A lot of smokers stop smoking when they get severe health problems. I quit as soon as I was diagnosed with asthma.

emmie, should would have been about the risks of smoking near the oxygen tank.
The whole human perception is that accidents happen to someone else.
Exactly Mamy, we all are guilty of thinking that bad things happen to someone else.

Even if we are the cause of the bad thing ourselves.
hc, that is what i meant, said, if someone at the hospital told her outright the dangers she wouldn't have put herself in so much peril, one would hope?
Perhaps she wasn't warned of the dangers. My neighbour suffered from asthma and the family were given very strict guidelines, her husband could only smoke outside and even the open fire had to be boarded up. The oxygen was not allowed to be in her bedroom and a spare room had to be converted to store it.

Is she still smoking?
Emmie, they really are very strict about making sure people know how to use oxygen in the home and the dangers. People who use it have to tell their insurance company that oxygen is stored in the home and their car insurers if oxygen is carried in the car.
The fire service may even be informed and they may carry out a risk assessment.

Every user knows that nobody should be smoking anywhere near the device.
if that is the case then she is just stupid. Sorry i don't wish ill on her, but if you know the dangers why would you do it.
that would be the normal procedure, vulcan; I'd be startled if nobody at all had told her not to have naked flames anywhere near the oxygen.

Then again, the whole thing is startling, so who knows what went wrong.
the poor woman paid a high price .
It's the same thing that goes wrong for the recipients of the Darwin Awards ...

A mixture of stupidity and bad luck - mostly stupidity. We've all done stupid things in our time, and often we get away with it (and then realise just how stupid it was) but not always ...
