one of the accused over Lee Rigby's murder has described himself as a Soldier of Allah, if so are there more who will follow his example and see this as a war with the west. The family of Lee Rigby must be devastated
having to listen to the evidence.

It would be unwise of us not to believe that there are more self-styled 'Soldiers Of Allah', emmie. Whether or not they would be prepared to carry out any such atrocities is for time to tell. What has probably happened is that all servicemen and women will have been put on full alert immediately following Lee Rigby's death, even when at home on leave. Which is, of...

Actually - has the defence opened yet?

They've plead 'Not guilty', so what line are they taking?
Chrissakes sp14

that is why everyone is commenting. coz it duznt sound v defensy.

please keep up !
// You really think Jake hates our soldiers? //

Nah, he just pretends to.
Peter

Ah no - that's what he has said whilst being cross-examined by the prosecution counsel (or council - I dunno).

I'm referring to what line their defence lawyer is going to take, because it doesn't look like they can plead insanity.

I am pretty sure it was the defence today and the prosecution was cross examining on his (the defendants) statement - Q so you did kill Trooper Rigby ? A Yes but.....

Clearly this is meant to look like a Rivonia treason trial but in 2013
and is looking to us like something else
The issue with making an criminal process, political
is that (as Mandela found)
you really have to say you did it
and then say why.

Gandhi used to throw in a plea for the maximum sentence (over the Salt laws) because he intended to break the law

this was committed by a British citizen on another, who was as i pointed out unarmed, not to mention that comments made by some over the killing of a Taliban operative by a British soldier, reported in the news recently. who has or is going to prison for a long stretch, some suggesting he should go to prison for life.

If that is the case let us hope these two men get life, no parole
As to the question, very few actually answered it, should we expect more atrocities like these, the killing of British citizens here in UK.

The sooner we are out of these countries the better, then no one has any ammunition to lob at our so called interference. Though of course there will be the people who say we should go and help in places like Syria, which in my opinion would be completely wrong, damned if we do and damned if we don't.
Question Author
Ludwig, not going on the many comments i have seen over a long period.
From Anjem Choudary: “As far as they [the killers of Lee Rigby] are concerned I believe that they were doing what they believed to be Islamically correct…..Mujahid was a very nice man in fact. He attended lectures, went to demonstrations. “There is no difference between him and many others who attended our activities…..What kind of world are we living in? The rest of the world doesn’t think that they’re heroes.”

Make what you will of it.

"should we expect more atrocities like these, the killing of British citizens here in UK"?

Yes.

This is not the end.

Another question that we should ask is...after Muslims have been in the UK for 40 years, what has happened in the last 15 years to attract radicalism/fanaticism?

Why wasn't this happening in the 70s, 80s and 90s.

If Islam has always been anti West, surely we should have seen incidents like these whilst we were growing up? How come it's only been in the last 10 years?
"How come it's only been in the last 10 years? "

More media coverage?
Question Author
SP, not nearly so many, look at areas like Bethnal Green, East End, always a poor rather down at heel area, now chock full of people from Pakistan, Somalia, and Afghanistan. However if no one noticed one of the men was from a good Christian family, i don't think he lived in London either, so not amongst those of a similar persuasion perhaps?
he said he was converted when he went to University, that Allah was the way, and that this is a war.
Question Author
no i don't think its the media coverage, i think that this has been on the rise for a long time, now they will use all the ammunition to use it against us over our so called involvement in Islamic countries, all the while ignoring the fact their Muslim brothers are killing other Muslims, Syria, Egypt, and so on. As to more on our streets, i can see it happening.
This is not a war, if it were we would be armed and ready, so his words are a chilling warning.
Question Author
and as i have pointed out that he is also up for the attempted murder of a police officer, so not just limited to the armed forces..

SP, contrary to popular opinion, 9/11 wasn’t the beginning.

Question Author
no it certainly wasn't, plenty of atrocities long before. In the name of Allah of course, and before anyone jumps in with well we shouldn't be in their countries, then let us hope they stop asking, begging the west for help when they have a coup, crisis, war, that way they have no excuse for their murderous actions on our citizens.
Do I hate our soldiers?

Well let's put it like this

I hate what they've been doing in recent years - Invading other countries killing thousands of locals who are no threat to us.

In the early days I'm sure there were some who joined up with the best intentions but as we've now been in Afghanistan for over a decade I think pretty much anyone there now joined up specifically to go and fight abroad and simply didn't think or didn't care about what they were ging to be doing.

I think the vast majority were/are 'adventurers' looking for excitement and a path out of the dead end jobs that poor academic performance left them with.

Do I hate them? No

I just have no time for the vast majority of them.

If they truely want to serve their country - which is the usual excuse - then the country is in desperate need of people to care for its old and its sick.

You want to find this country's heroes - go to the NHS or homes for those with dementia

This countries heroes don't carry rifles they carry bedpans
JTP,
Your pants are on fire.......
Question Author
have you been in a NHS hospital lately, if so you know they are not full of angels with bedpans, they are often staffed with people who have lost of the art of compassion, caring, the statistics on hospitals, their services and places like Mid Staffordshire should be a warning that there is a massive problem with the NHS. To compare the two seems strange to me.

In the times of crisis who do we turn to, if it's a war like WW1, WW2, it's the armed services, and those who volunteer obviously do so willingly, those who are called up may not, but like those two wars most did so out of a sense of duty. These days our armed services are often called upon to do other duties than go and shoot the Taliban, Al Qaeda, and they didn't ask to go to Afghanistan, Iraq, they had no choice, it's their job. These countries ask for help, they wonder why the west does nothing when many of their citizens die, look at the shambles that is the Middle east, look at the hell that is Syria, if they ask for the west help, should we do it, no we shouldn't - these stupid double standards get on my wick.

They ask for help, we give it, then get embroiled in a civil war, then both sides turn on us, time and time again. Let us stop this now, call all troops out of the following Afghanistan, Iraq, Ireland, and any place where the citizenry are hell bent on killing one another, i really don't care for our service personnel to be killed, called murderers because of some idiot in Parliament or the White House who decreed we should get involved in someone else's war, spat.
Your stance quite frankly leaves me irritated, your dislike of them is patent no matter your protestations, i quite agree that Afghanis, Iraqis should not be killed, let their own people do it if that is what they want, let us stay out and keep out once and for all. Then no one can moan, whinge, slate our servicemen and women for their part in someone else's mess.

Question Author
let us hope that we don't have another world war, what will you do then, there will be no where to hide, nor will there be anyone who won't be asked to fight, or contribute in some way, just like before.

Either that it will be some madman from the Middle east who has a dirty bomb, and puts paid to millions in one go.
