bit of a debate going on here, should the paper of printed this (ex) reader's letter?

I think it should of been binned as that's were this sort of garbage thinking should reside, others think it should of been printed if only to show what sort of idiots walk our streets

Sorry, should have clarified that... The rest of us tolerant folk have the right to disagree with Mr Jones... My apologies for forgetting that some people do think that there is something abnormal, wrong or disgusting about homosexuality.

Of course they should've printed it.

Is it such a big deal? It's one man's opinion.

The gay community fought for decades for people to be more tolerant of their views and rights. In return, we should be tolerant of people whose views are completely the opposite.

He's not hurting anyone, because nobody pays any real attention to him.

Even where I live, in the spiritual heartland of gay liberation, you get people who go around saying, It shouldn't be allowed, Mavis, it's not right you know, girls didn't do that to each other when I was their age (although, actually, they did, of course).

Besides, isn't it quite funny to see people like this, getting all high horsey?
Oh dear, trigger happy mod on the horizon. How sad.

So will hc4361's post here that corrected me (for which I was thankful, after all, isn't it the same as what teachers do?) that I did not take umbrage at in the slightest also be removed?

Think I'll leave it for a while, see y'all soon!
I think it's a wind up letter.
Of course, the editor could have binned it; editors must sometimes bin letters which are offensive to them or their readers, but that would have denied youngmafbog an opportunity to rail against the creation of a commie state by right-on lefty liberals. That would have been a pity.

The paper was right to print it. Not all its readers will have disagreed with the views in it, surely, and it is an arguable point of opinion.

how do you know he's not hurting anyone? (i,m not saying he is btw)

Chilled - i wasn't complaining and it didn't bother me either, i'm as mystified as you....... (still won't take any notice :-)
If it was a genuine opinion then I feel sorry for the writer. Unless he completely withdraws from society, never watches TV or reads a paper again then he is going to come across articles about homosexuality on an almost daily basis. It must be quite distressing for the poor sensitive soul (sarcasm alert).
I'm imagining this chap being like Victor Meldrew, going through life saying I don't believe it !!
// he is going to come across articles about homosexuality //

I bet he doesn't tell the local paper about that !
I wondered which of you filthy minded people would pick up on that. lol

I entirely agree, but what a sorry state of affairs when we all have to read articles & see programmes on tv which are constantly pushing the subject, it appears to me that since Homosexuality was declared legal it is being drummed into us without letup. I get the opinion that sex in all its many forms has only just been invented.

WR.
sad he thinks that way, however he has a right to say it, and the paper to print it.
I've never found that homosexuality has been drummed into me...

i laughed so hard then i choked on my tea

having read all of this and thought about it some more, of course they should of printed it, i reacted to the content and ignored the right of free speech

i must go look and see if there has been a reaction.......
Easy to take the p1$$ isn't it when discussing an important subject ?

WR.
//I've never found that homosexuality has been drummed into me...//
Me neither, and I grew up knowing from the age of about 5 that my mum is a lesbian. It didn't make me want to be one... it did make me more tolerant I suppose.
I never had homosexuality drummed into me...........and look what happened!

The paper was right to print the letter; it's just a shame that here are still people who are as narrow-minded as Mr Jones.
*there........although 'here' seems to serve just as well.
Mr Jones has the right to form his own opinion and voice it.

The paper has the right to publish any letter sent to them.

The rest of us have the right to disagree with Mr Jones and think he's an idiot.
