With all these revelations coming out, it makes it sound like it's Nigella Lawson who's on trial.

Either way, she isn't skint, with or without him.
If Nigella looked like Michael Winner, would the mail keep putting its 'windswept and interesting' portrait on its front page every day?
No, they wouldn't, Andy.

I find the reporting of this trial to be shameful.
probably not, but then again most tv chefs are not particularly good looking,
they pick her out because she looks like an old fashioned movie star, like Ava Gardner, when all glammed up
Taking drugs ruined many a carreer in the US? Kidding right? Doesn't seem to have harmed Lindsey Lohan (among many) much.
I admire Nigella for keeping her dignity while this is going on. So she may have used drugs and drank too much. That is not the issue.
Exactly, Flump.
BOO -
"Taking drugs ruined many a carreer in the US? Kidding right? Doesn't seem to have harmed Lindsey Lohan (among many) much."

If you eliminate the constant falling-out-of-nighclubs and so on, you will find that her actual career, as an actress, is in total freefall. No one will work with her because she is too flakey, and no-one wants to sign her for a film part because of her drugs label.

I'd say Lindsey Lohan's career has been comprehensively destroyed by drugs, and her health is following close behind.
She's still in demand for "stuff" though Andy, wasn't that long ago she made a (terrible) film about Elizabeth Taylor.

It does seem nowadays that drug taking is not the career killer it should be, Kate Moss has done ok since her scandal too.

Sorry to have derailed the thread somewhat, I just wanted to point out that whether Nigella has been taking drugs or not, it's not necessarily the end of her career.
well, according to the defence, it is the issue, flump, so they're within their rights to raise it and the media are right to report it. I've no idea if it will succeed, or whether it will do Nigella or Saatchi any harm. As andy says, drugs have pretty much wiped out Lindsay Lohan's career; on the other hand, Robert Downey Jr has got his back again, so you never know.
There was an interview on BBC breakfast (On the back of the Nigella saga, I can't remember who about though) but an American politician admitted to have previously used coke and he went up in the popularity stakes!!

Personally I can't see the TV company's being too quick to sign her up for a new series after the drug revelations, true or not mud sticks. I think this trial will effectively have ended her career.
I really don't think they're that bothered, Eddie, part of her appeal has always been that she endorses self-indulgence in your intake. If it had been Fanny Cradock, now...
I think the public will always be on Nigella's side, not Saatchi's.
Remember the classic goof on the Fanny Cradock program?
The announcer said '' I hope all your doughnuts look like Fanny's '
Bit of double standards going on here. It is OK to call Kerry Katona a cokehead, but not Domestic Goddess Nigella?
Gromit - it's fine, because it's all about media perception.

Kerry Catona is a waste of space northern muppet with a string of failed relationships, and famous for doing nothing very much.

Nigella is a 'domestic goddess', a fantasy figure for a vast number of men, and liked by the PM.

It's as simple as that.
There are different kinds of coke users though.

Some use it occasionally...some snort it when they are caring for very young children and get filmed doing so.

I'm not pro or anti drugs but there is a time and place. Kerry was being judged so harshly because it put her parenting decisions in to the question.
She was on TV the other night, cooking away - I looked at her and thought "I see you in a different light, now...."
Are the defence team doing a good job here? They have clients who are accused of stealing 3/4 of a million yet it's their victim who's being vilified. I hope in his summing up the learned judge contrasts the fragrance of Nigella against the mean minded tittle tattle of servants.
