I mean really this does demonstrate level of stupidity and contempt that we really should have a more severe punishment for.

I was taught to drive by an ex metropolitan police driving instructor. He taught me many things, one was to drive as if there was a police car fifty yards in front and one fifty yards behind.however, relative to this discussion, he told me many drivers look but do not observe. They will look at an approaching car but not observe the driver and he said, "His/her body language can give an indication of what might happen in a few seconds time. Having this extra knowledge might just save your life one day".
I guess I'm with gness. :o)

I was taught the same thing on my AD Course, the Instructor was not Police or ex Police.
I still don't understand how it's being suggested that we should look at and observe drivers coming in the opposite direction. I see a car coming, I position myself appropriately (if not already there), I don't give a beak into the windscreen to see what the driver's doing - I'm more concerned in keeping my own vehicle on a proper course and appropriate speed.
Chewn....I do not systematically look into other vehicles....unless in a jam and there is some talent in the next car....

I use my vision to be aware of other drivers.....most don't warrant my attention but my peripheral vision can alert me to someone who is likely to do something stupid....and I'll bet you do too...whatever you think....☺

Gness, I know what you mean, you anticipate that the kid on the pavement is going to step off, or that dog's going to run into the street, or oops, that red car's going to run the lights.....
Thank you, Vulcan....you have put very well what I was trying to get across. and failing to do so...x

Baldric...interesting link....I like heightened observational skills. Wouldn't harm us all to develop those.
Yes, Boxy...that's what we do..or should and I still maintain that most of us must do that with other drivers, whether we acknowledge it or not.
We really can't be oblivious to them?

Chewn, as I said he was an ex police driving instructor, I assume he modified his instructions for the public, he never showed me how to look for dodgy characters.

we switch on the wipers.
Effective windscreen wipers?
Blimey, Vulcan....we'll be a couple soon....☻

Chewn are you referring to my post @ 15:28?
gness, we'd probably fight over who drove. :0)
I don't wish to play gooseberry but can I have a seat in the back?
Bench seat for three, Eccles?.....☺

Gness, is the link I put in @ 15:28 working ok? 'cause going by his post @ 15:36 I think Chewn is having a problem with it.
;o)
