Ok no one deserves to die for it but I have often wanted to strangle the morons using their phones in the cinema! I once reached over and grabbed the phone off a guy in front and threw it down the aisle, very enjoyable! Frankly I'm amazed that cinemas have not developed some sort of sheilding to negate phones entirely, then they'd not have to show those little comedic reminders about phone usage.

I do, Ummmm....but then I don't hop between the hares and the hounds in the popularity stakes.....People using phones in an unsociable manner are a menace. "
i don't really understand that, hares and the hounds or the menace bit
people using phones in an unsociable manner could be rude/irritating/annoying/irrelvant depending on your point of view, but a menace? whats menacing about it?
someone walking down the road texting or online and not paying attention to where they are going that could be a menace i suppose
I don; tget how you can be sympathetic toward the idiot in this case, i really dont

I am flabbergasted that anyone can talk about having sympathy for a man so lacking in impulse control, so self righteous that they pull a gun in a cinema and shoot a man dead - over a heated argument about the other guy texting, knowing the man in question has a 3 year old daughter.
Yes, I can understand irritation. I can understand even going to the management and I could sympathise with that level of reaction - but to pull a gun and kill someone? No, no sympathy from me.

entirely agree with lozzer, parents and in particular mums texting while child screams and screams, no matter when they are, entirely ignoring child. Awful that mobiles have taken so much precedence in our lives.
i recall being in Italy some years ago, and wondered why it was necessary for the mostly young to have phones stuck to their earholes 24/7, it hadn't quite caught on here, now it has.

from the link, so it was a row that escalated, and being in the US can see how this happens, over 300 millions guns one for every person if they so wished. I confess don't know why anyone carries a gun, let alone in a church, cinema...
"
The two couples had been waiting to watch the new war film Lone Survivor at the Cobb Grove 16 cinema in Wesley Chapel when the row broke out.
Mr Reeves apparently stormed out of the auditorium to get a manager, but returned without one.
"Three seconds, four seconds later, the argument starts again," Mr Cummings said.
"Their voices start going up; there seems to be almost a confrontation. Somebody throws popcorn, I'm not sure who threw the popcorn, and, bang, he was shot."

have to say i am quite surprised by the number of people who feel it is their right to control what strangers do in a public place.
if i am on the train and i choose to speak to someone on the phone, then i will! its none of anyone else's business, and i couldn't care less that you can hear me speak!
nor do i care if you hear something that makes you uncomfortable, or that you dont understand because you cant hear the other person - you should not be paying any attention to me!
my life continues to happen whether you are there or not and i'm not going to go round afraid to do what ever i need to just incase someone huffs or tuts at me
you need to learn to get on with your own lives and stop letting yourself get involved in other peoples - especially strangers
there are plenty of circumstances that talking on a mobile is unacceptable - funeral, job interview, at a counter, cinema etc - but merely being out in public is not one of them - especially when you are not even interacting with anyone!
most people dont shout down the phone at all - most people speak just as they would if the person was right beside them - only when its a bad line or old people raise their voices.

they do shout, many just don't realise they are doing it, bad connections on the phone, noise on the bus, train, others talking, and no one can stop from listening if the person is sat next to you. How do you zone out, apart from wearing ear plugs, or listening to music, and on some train services there are quiet carriages, where no mobiles can be used, fancy being on a flight for 12 hours and listening to someone rabbiting on for that time, you would go dolally.
My views on guns outside of a shooting range are no secret and I would like to see a big change in the gun control laws in America.
What I find strange is the inability to have some sympathy for anyone whose life is changed so drastically in a split second when we don't know all the circumstances. Of course had a gun not been involved the chap may still be alive...or not. Not all deaths in a row are gun deaths.
When the Tony Martin story broke I felt terribly sorry for the man...until things came to light that caused me to rethink.
Desperately sorry though I am for the man who has died and for his family....I am stupidly soft enough to have some feelings for the man driven to such an act....until I see a reason not to have some sympathy.

its still just talking - just a voice.
talking is not antisocial
and in public places you dont get to shut people up just because it irritates you.
there are plenty of antisocial actions that i would understand people getting irked at in public - farting, swearing, throwing things etc etc - but simply talking is not one of them

dont get me wrong - someone nattering away next to me is irritating - and i do wish they'd shut up - but i accept that they have every right to do that and i have no right whatsoever to expect them to stop
if i choose to be irritated then that's up to me.... or i can choose to just let it go and ignore them ...
and i certainly do not start focussing on their conversation and getting het up about the content.
