Patriotism, if it may be so termed, only exists in the young to the extent that they would fight to defend their territory, their country, against invasion. And they would cheer for England or Britain in a sporting contest, but that means no more than cheering for Chelsea, Accrington Stanley, or any other team they support. The connotation of "My country, right or wrong" or that their country is somehow inherently superior than any other, is alien to them. Quite right too.
