Why has this been allowed?

He should have had the death penalty, that would stop it. Pity the coppers didn't do a better job, there is no doubt about his guilt.

lawyers trying it on, i suppose the ge paid to do it.
hopefully it doesnt even get past the first hurdle
Thirded.

I can't imagine how he would have grounds to be granted leave to appeal.

Best outcome of the appeal would be an increased sentence.
//Best outcome of the appeal would be an increased sentence//

he's not been sentenced yet. sentencing is delayed pending an issue with whole-life tariffs which has yet o be resolved, and for which no date has yet been set.
I assume he is appealing the sentence as there is no doubt he committed the crime.

The law has to be the same for everyone. Any other killer can appeal their sentence so that is the reason he can. Justice has to be equal, even if it means indulging very bad people.
Yes , if we are going to have a system that allows appeals against sentences , then you cant disallow some people to use it , however unpalatible it may be in some instances .

The alternative , would be to get rid of the appeals process .

I'm sure your'e not advocating that - or are you ?
Who pays for all these appeals, they all seem to get Barristers not ordinary Solicitors? How can they qualify for Legal Aid when the ordinary Person generally gets denied any form of Legal Aid?
I don't think it will get past the first hurdle.
The ordinary person does *not* get denied 'any form of legal aid'

If you're arrested you're entitled to free legal advice at the police station whatever your earnings.

You have to pay all your costs if your disposable annual income is above £37,500
It's lawyers hiking up their fees just a technicality, there is no doubt the guy is guilty. As for sentencing guide lines just give him 500 years with 50% off for good behaviour and if the EU insists give him a kin release date of 2264 For Funks Sake! end of!
or better still chop his kin head off!
Jake.Legal Aid advice is not what I am talking about,I am asking who pays for their Barristers etc. A friend of mine was denied Legal Aid because she earned more than £10,000 per year. That's what puzzles me.
as long as he gets a long sentence after his appeal, personally i hope they shut him up in solitary for the rest of his days.
Youngmafbog - I agree entirely - shame the coppers didnt top these murdering ba$tards at the time. Save thousands to the taxpaying mugs who have to fund these ridiculous trials and allow the lawyers to trouser £1,000s and now pay out more for fruitless appeals.
They wanted to die. They wanted some twisted, perverted form of martyrdom.I am glad the police denied them that wish, and that they got a trial and were sent down, in full view of the public.

And he can lodge an appeal if he wants, but I seriously doubt it will get very far.
A slightly different way of looking at it is to grant the appeal, free both of them & let Lee-Rigby's family know the dates of release.

WR.
Was it a civil or a criminal case everhelpful ?

The rules are different - I would say rightfully so
exactly what i said at the time, the police didn't shoot to kill and thank goodness, why make these murderous scum into martyrs.

And his Army colleagues and friends.....
