A great none story.
The only person the Mail can find to be offended by it isn't even offended, just confused.
// Not sure if this branding is really clever or really offensive,' Andrew Nattan tweeted. 'Can you really call your plumbers U-Benders?' //
It's a gimmick. Not particulatly clever, but not offenive either. Must be a quiet day in the street of shame.

Andrew continued that he was now on a mission to find if there was a company called T'Pieces, vowing to fight for all potentially offended Yorkshiremen (and wimmin).
To answer your question AOG, it's a clever piece of advertising when seen from here but there will. I'm sure, be someone ready to froth about it.

"But some people are less amused by the U-benders pun, suggesting that it could be seen as 'really offensive' by gay people"
As Chrisgel pints out ... the people saying it's offensive are not gay themselves.
They are the usual bunch of people who like to feel offended at every opportunity.
The gay community loves to camp it up, and play up to their own stereotype. And, if anyone disagrees with that, take a trip down here for a day and have a walk through Kemp Town.

I agree, but when one mentions this on AB, there is an outcry from our resident gays.
I do not find the title of the thread offensive or clever, but as long as it pleases that Cleary fellow, then we should all be happy......;-)

Not offensive.
Not hilarious either.
There's a shoe menders near where I work run by a Greek fella. It's called Achilles Heel. Now that I find funny.
And years ago, I used to work near a hairdressers called Sit Down and Shut Up. Used to make me laugh every time I walked by.
This pun just seems a little...meh.
Tell you something that IS a little disconcerting though...it's the claim that the gay community like to 'camp it up'.
That's not wholly true...in the same way that some men are overtly blokey (Danny Dyer, Jason Statham, Ross Kemp, Jeremy Clarkson et al), some gay men are overtly camp...but that is just one demographic of gay men.
There is a world of difference between the men who go clubbing in Canal Street and those who go to clubs like Bar Code, The Hoist and Fist.
But then, you would never see these blokes on telly, because they're not funny or witty. They're just...average.
