OK, hats off to them for getting stuck in, but surely the security subsequent entourage required could actually hamper the real work?

Damned if they do and damned if they don't!
A photo opportunity if ever I saw one ! But at least while they are out shifting sand bags, they aren't killing wild animals, so for that at least, we must be grateful.
Well at least they are getting stuck-in to a bit of manual work, more than can be said for the politicians who just like to paddle in their Wellington boots.

/// Prince Harry is still an officer with the Household Cavalry. ///

I thought he was an officer in the Army Air Corps?
PR exercise.
I suppose if their gran needs some help with sandbags, she will know who to call.

as great granny said, "It makes me feel I can look the East End in the face"
Get your wellies on!
They don't need PR. They could have stayed at home and done nowt.
divebuddy's right, their "PR exercise" is more useful than sitting at computers moaning.
Thank goodness I read through my post before submitting.
Willies would have been inappropriate.
It's their "duty", though and will no doubt incentivise others to get stuck in too.
Why is it their duty? I haven't seen any pictures of politicians shifting sand bags around.
Of course it's their duty to help out when the country is in times of trouble.
Well done to them, I say.
Yup, too little too late and too expensive security-wise. Same for politicians. It's obscene. In 18 months they'll be building new houses!
SIQ.
zebo is right, if they do nothing they are parasites, if they help, they could be in the way..
good for them, they wanted to help,
It's symbolic. They're saying 'we're concerned about this and want to show our support for the victims'.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
