this'll be a blow to Elton John.
Seriously, have all the army of people redrafting all this legislation got nothing better to do with their time?
Am I allowed to say what a sad country this is becoming? I despair of it all .......
It's not just this country, ann - I am sad to see all the old statutes and institutions being blown away, "just in case".
Me too Boxy :(
Lunatics definitely running the Asylum now.

Ron.
the sun will come up tomorrow as normal people.
but they aren't being blown away, if anything, saying that a male companion to a monarch cannot be a queen or bear any other female title is surely STRENGTHENING the traditions of the country
To me, woof, it's a pretty clear definition already - a Queen or a Princess is a female title, so it has to be a female.
What's the big deal?

Some statutes are being reworded.

Happened when civil partnerships became law, and it's happening again.
so, what title would a same-sex marriage partner of a monarch have conferred on them?
If due to historical requirements, the female mayors in our town are still addressed as Mr Mayor, presumably a male partner could be Mr Queen - or the Rt Hon King's Escort?
Possibly Queen's Consort or King's Consort.

Or maybe they'll be given the title Duke or Duchess.
now that the law recognizes the possibility of a married gay monarch, would the adopted child of a gay royal marriage be first in line to the throne?
Mr Queen? I suppose I'm not supposed to laugh at the double entendre.
Would this be the end of the line for the Monarchy. ?There would not be any children from such a union.
..but there aren't always children from a man-and-woman marriage, andres - that's why there's always a line of succession waiting in the wings.

I think the rules of royal assent would rule out an adopted child being heir to the throne.

This set of changes to a huge amount of legislation going back many centuries was always on the cards for such a momentous redefinition of legal marriage. Hardly surprising, and hardly revolutionary either. Most of them amount to a rewording to change "husband" and "wife", rather than anything that drastic. At any rate, any fuss there was to be had over same-sex marriage should be about principle rather than legal difficulties.
Seems a sensible thing to do - to tidy up the legislation in advance of same-sex marriage. All too often Governments are criticized for not having prepared the ground when new legislation is introduced.

The spokesman from The Coalition for Marriage sounds hysterical, to me.
