I would guess that most normal people watching a Katy Perry video will feel offended to one degree or another.

If one of Ms Perry's suitors had been an old man in a white beard and labelled 'God' and then Ms Perry disintegrated 'God', do you not think many Christians would be offended by that?

But in general, I would agree - it is nonsensical to get so fussed about a video like this, and I wonder how many of the 60,000 signatories would have even noticed this had it not been drawn to their attention and invited to feel offended.

I am giving some serious thought to some putting together some kind of innocuous art installation that looks superficially similar to some holy relic/image/word from all the major religious schools, and see which generates the most indignant responses and death threats :)

They don't search for ways to be offended. As already said, they take their religious symbols very seriously. When I was in Saudi some years ago with a Muslim colleague, she was looking at some lovely pendants bearing the name of Allah, but she said she wouldn't wear one because she'd have to take it off every time she went to the toilet, for fear of sullying His name.

You don't put the Koran on the floor for fear of dirtying it, the only way you can destroy a Koran or any holy writing is by burning it (if you must), to keep it clean.

If Muslim people had made a video which showed people wearing crucifixes or Jewish symbols being burned, do you not think that the Christians and Jews would be up in arms?

IMO, it's the juxaposition of the name of Allah with a sexy video which isn't helping too. It's insensitive.

Perhaps this US Pastor should have made the excuse that he was going to clean these 3,000 copies of the Koran, then everything would have been all right? :0)

Well, Christian groups take offence quite easily too. And the Daily Mail has 4 million readers and it finds something for them to be offended by every day! :)
