Seems like a waste of money but maybe they hope it'll cut down or eliminate forgery.
I just hope somebody gives me a few million of them to try out for myself.
i like it, it does remind me of the old thruppenny bit, according to the news there are are 45 million 1 pound coins in circulation that are forgeries, so anything that can stop that i guess.
Will it fit in a shopping trolley?
it would likely be the same size as the current coin
I just thought that they might adapt the trolley to take the new shape. We'll see.
There will have to be a huge redesign of all the machines that take £1 coins as payment, everything from self service tills to fruit machines. But as the artical says there is a huge amount of forgery of £1 coins so it has to change.
as i pointed out, at least that is what the newsreader said,
It'll buy about as much as the old thrupney bit did in the good old days
I think its wonderful. It takes me right back to my childhood, with its shape.
But its not going to fit into any slot that I can think of...car park machines and shopping trolleys for instance.
Douglas i could get a lot of sweets for that, it used to go quite a long way
Me too emmie..if you got the four a penny mojos and bananas...
A penny gubstopper, there might have been a halfpenny in it if you were lucky, and 8 Walkers four for a penny caramels. 3D went a long way.
fruit salad, blackjacks, sherbet dip, and have change, x
Fortune cookies two a penny and milk chews too...
white mice, shrimps, liquorice strands, smith's crisps, gosh that is going back some,
I think I will photograph the present pound coin so that I can show it to the parking machines etc.
If this new coin was the same weight and diameter as the one it's to replace would it not operate slot machines?
why don't they issue tokens for parking meters, same for the shopping trolleys, same shape as the current pound coin, surely it would be cheaper than changing every machine that takes the current coin
going on its shape i wouldn't have thought so.
