/// We noted, for example, how he has given about £50,000 in grants to the Bengali media and a further £50,000 a year for "community media advice" to the chief correspondent of the most popular Bengali TV channel. That same channel has three times breached Ofcom impartiality rules by its blatantly biased coverage of the mayor. He counters that the relationship the two have is "professional". ///
There is something worrying when a Mayor of a mainly ethnic minority borough of London, not only tries to stop a BBC 'Panorama' report, but also channels public money toward self interest sources.

Yes, as has been mentioned, Mr Rahman's shenanigans have been laid bare for a long time in Private Eye - at least two years that I know of and maybe much longer. I would expect any public official acting in a similar way to be subject to media and official scrutiny whatever their race or religion. Unfortunately Mr Rahman has the "Islamaphobic" trump card to play - an option not available to those of other faiths (or none). What Panorama has tried to reveal and have discussed is but the tip of the iceberg and the scandal is that, although much of these goings-on have been known about for a long time no official enquiry has taken place.

It encompasses much of London's old "East End". It is interesting to note that the ethnic make up of the Borough in the Wiki article suggests 45% of residents are white. I would stronly challenge that and a trip through the area would probably explain why I have my doubts. The figure comes from the 2011 census and it may well be that large numbers of the non-white residents did not take part.
