nowhere is really safe, not even in good old Britain, or is it just the same old story, mankind can't help but muck things up..

But there are more humans too. I wonder if anyone has ever looked at the number of of people killed by violence in any year as a percentage of the world's population at the time? The Romans, for instance, used to eliminate whole villages or sub tribes by killing, burning the settlement, killing or driving off the stock and salting their land.

we have nukes, not sure thats a good thing for anyone
Question Author
i meant we don't stop fighting each other
imagine living through the Black Death (or worse, dying of it) - every second person dying fast and in agony.

It doesn't happen now, since we know what it is and how to fight it. Isn't that progress? Are we really worse off now than in the 14th century?

Question Author
i suspect the reason that the stone age people killed one another was pretty much the same as now territory, and perhaps food sources, tribal attitudes prevail, just look at Syria

It depends on your definition of "mucking things up" so far as the species goes, the strategies used are working well.
