The police have just phoned me from outside my house.

They are now on their way to my offices to take a DNA cheek swab for a 30 year old murder enquiry in which they have a full DNA profile of the attacker.

Hopefully the technology is reliable

If not, it's been nice knowing you all

They could be telling the truth when they say that the samples (swabs) are not kept; however, I bet that the results (spectrograph?) are retained for future usage.

When challenged, the officers' line was that they were collecting samples from people who had previously provided similar samples for other enquiries.

I suppose they would say that wouldn't they ;-)
