There are many on AnswerBank who dislike Daily Mail columnist
Richard Little John, but maybe might still find this an interesting look back at how things once were.

God knows what some of you will have to look back on when you are old and grey! Well let's see ---You will have Twitter, facebook ,ipad, ipod, tablets, kindles...

Yes - alcohol causes more hospital admissions than smoking and drugs put together. That doesn't mean smoking (passive or not) is safe. It is a combination of factors and you don't need 100% dying from passive smoking to prove it can be dangerous.
its rather wordy and medical, but gives you the reason, and remember that you may inherit an illness from the parents.

Very good, tony. Any other instruments? What grade did you get to on the comb?;-)
i didn't do well with the Izal comb thingy as i couldn't stand the smell of the paper, i hated to touch the stuff, needs must and all that - but glad we have decent alternatives now.
Dr Filth, going OT, Prof Davie is an idiot. Cell mutation is a part of the function of the body. If cells couldn't mutate, the species couldn't evolve. I remember being told once that research had been done on the bodies of old people who had died from other causes than cancer with no cancer having been diagnosed. A significant percentage (can't remember the figure, will try and find it) of those people had an undiagnosed cancer somewhere in their bodies. The thing with smoking is that it puts stuff in the lungs that shouldn't be there and that the lungs have no defence for. The irritation causes mutation of a nasty kind.
I never could do comb and paper, it made my lips itch.
Well pixie I got a CSE and a GSE but failed my A level.
Excellent multi-tasking on this thread...
Aaaw. Never mind, tony. I'm sure you found other things to play with.
emmie thanks for that will have another read

> Childhood cancer researchers have evidence, that the first few cells of various malignancies, such as Wilms tumours, neuroblastomas, germ cells and some brain tumours may already be present at birth. This suggests that changes in certain cells of the body may have already happened in the embryo. However, much more research is needed to completely and accurately describe what causes a specific cancer in a child.

Cancer is not a contagious disease.

So far, there is no scientific evidence that childhood cancer can be caused by human behaviour. Therefore, the current state of knowledge does not allow the conclusion, that you or your child have done anything that may have caused the disease.
so it is, tony did you have an orange box go kart...
i never thought it was contagious, however that gives a reasoned explanation for children and cancer
Sure did, emmie, great fun with it to.
Yes I did, pixie, I had grown out of playing the comb by then !.
My friend's 5-yr-old daughter died from brain tumours (neoroblastoma, i think) and they were told she was probably born with it.
My niece died at 8 years old with the same thing, pixie, my brother and sil were told that she was born with it.
Pixie, which bears out the article, though i am sure that much more research is needed..
Oh. So sorry, tony. It's awful, isn't it. The optician discovered blood clots behind her eyes. She was given 3 months- potentially up to a year with intensive operations and chemo, which her parents didn't want to put her through. She died 10 weeks later.
its shocking because its still relatively rare, they have better treatment now and many survive having illnesses like leukaemia, so more needs to be done to help those through these awful cancers
My niece had three brain ops, didn't save her though I couldn't really say if it prolonged her life.
