Boko Haram....

it just occurred to me that I have not noticed any protestations from "moderate" Islam over the kidnapping of the school girls. Are the media omitting to report it or is there tacit support? It seems a good opportunity for Islam to demonstrate to the west that they are serious about their opposition to extremists.

they are the ones that need to deal with situation, and root out the members of this terrorist cell and deal with accordingly, if it means
giving them a hand to do so, then lets do it, but don't expect that to go down well with some, who consider the west's interference as wrong

The 'western powers' are NOT doing 'diddly sqat' there is a lot of activity, the USA are flying missions including the same class of drones that have been used to eliminate terrorists in Afganistan over the area to try to idenify where the girls are being held. There are US, Israli, French and UK teams in the area.
It has to be 'low key' as if Boko Haram get to hear of a rescue attempt the first thing they will do is kill the captives. This has been described as the most difficult situation ever encountered.

thing is this is nothing new, but it has gone to a higher level,
like piracy and giving in to their demands, they just go on demanding more, and getting away with it. It is a difficult situation, and i most certainly don't advocate not trying to help, but this is a scourge world wide, and they aren't going to go quietly. If the Nigerian government gives in and cedes to their demands for the release of terrorists, where does that stop.

i am not confused, why did i have to specify where piracy occurs, most seems to be Somalia, i was likening it simply because governments, businesses are giving in to their demands on a regular basis, so if the Nigerian government gives in this won't be the last time this happens, and there is no guarantee that the girls will be returned.

Piracy in the Gulf of Guinea has evolved over the first decade of the century. For some time, smaller ships shuttling employees and materials belonging to the oil companies with any involvement in oil exploration had been at risk in Nigeria. Over time, pirates became more aggressive and better armed.[2]
