/// A BBC spokeswoman said the unedited version of the documentary was broadcast soon after being filmed because the baton's tour was treated as a news event. ///

/// She added: “They had more time to edit it the second time. Mark didn't mean to cause offence. But the word 'girl' was taken out just in case it did.” ///

/// Another non-story on a slow news day. ///

Extraordinary funny, how these 'none stories' get the most response.
If his were a global BBC edict, then Radio 1 and Radio 2 are going to have a few playlist headaches.

To whit:

All The Girls Love Alice – Elton John

All You Pretty Girls - XTC

Are You Gonna Be My Girl – Jet

Around The Way Girl - LL Cool J

Bad Girls - Donna Summer

Ballerina Girl - Lionel Richie

Barbie Girl - Aqua

Beautiful Girls - Van Halen

Beautiful Girls – Sean Kingston

Big Girls Don't Cry - The Four Seasons

Bobby's Girl - Marcie Blane

Boy/Girl - U2

A Boy Without A Girl - Frankie Avalon

Boys And Girls – Pixie Lott

Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison

Brown Girl In The Ring - 1978 - Boney

And Madonna will be particularly badly hit...

What It Feels Like For A Girl
Material Girl
Girl Gone Wild
Bad Girl
Some Girls

Point of order

It's 'non-story', rather than 'none story'.

Would it had been deemed offensive to have said:

“I am not sure I can live that down - being beaten by a 19-year-old”

Or would that have been deemed somewhat "Ageist"?

Or perhaps:

“I am not sure I can live that down - being beaten by a 19-year-old Female/Woman.” ?

Would that have been more suited since she was over 18?
In the circumstances and had I been the male adult presenter I would have said exactly what he did.

All this PC stuff is supposed to make us all feel equal (I think) and instead it has become 'stupid' with people with thin skins looking for offence everywhere.

They are probably going to ban jokes soon - in case someone is offended.

//“I am not sure I can live that down - being beaten by a 19-year-old Female/Woman.” //

not sure you can call them female (because the word contains "male"), or "woman" (because the word contains "man")

perhaps you'd have to describe them as an eight-orificed bipedal life form.
wouldn't a man(male person) have 8 orifices using the criteria I presume you're using.
no, men have only seven.
as in 6 in the head and 2, ahem, elsewhere.
have you ever seen a naked man?
six in the head?
2 ears.
2 nostrils.
1 mouth.

and the hole where his wife puts the axe?

Don't tell me you have joined the team of 'we correct AOG's typos' if we haven't anything else to correct him for'?

Incidentally there are some songs you have put down that Radio 1 wouldn't touch with a barge pole, since they threw away their record cylinder player away.
>>>> what is a "record cylinder player" Is that the one with Nipper the dog?

It's not about you. It's about my friend Grammar.

She is constantly abused, and I feel responsible for defending her.
if the 'big girl's blouse' hadn't lost to a 'girl' we wouldn't be having this conversation
-- answer removed --
'boy' did you dare to say 'boy', it'll all set off again now

The thing about that though is the fact that you yourself has then to be very careful that you do not abuse her yourself, which then becomes a much more serious offense.
